I guess we will find out in the next few days when that "pending" changes!

My understanding is that dealers took pre-orders after that date with the intention of putting them through the website on behalf of the customer once the online ordering has opened. Wheather they have any weight in being placed by the dealerships and if that can speed things up, I don't know - I hope they just had better/earlier access to the website and got in before everyone else.

It would still largely depend on what exactly you ordered as ultimately if the spec/colour you ordered is not availalbe, they still need to build the car.
Yes, I agree, good thing my dealer called and I was able to pay the balance of my deposit on the 12th.

My understanding is that dealers received no advantage after pre-orders closed.

So, does everyone think the Subaru way of doing things is better than Toyota's so far?

well, it doesn't seem to be working for me... when I placed the order, it said "order pending"... my $3000 disappeared pretty quick, but it still says "order pending".

What does yours say? car coming soon?

No. I wanted a BRZ, but have ordered an 86 because I think Subaru's handling of the BRZ is a disgrace.

Agreed. How many BRZs are going to end up on eBay like tickets to a concert. Why would you create an environment for scalpers to thrive?

Would definitely spell the end of online ordering if they did.

I think they have done aright, Toyota's way has not been any better, the dealers have had no clue of when you are getting the car, up until the bulletin that came out they were quoting me 4 - 6 months.. then all of a sudden it was 18 months.
Could you imagine how it would have been with people trying to get to a dealer to get in first, they sold out in 3 hours or something online, it probably gave people a chance who would have normally been stuck at work to order one.

And i kinda like the idea of ordering online, i can order nearly anything else i want, and i am a massive fan of ordering online, i get everything from pizza's to clothes and shoes to computer parts etc all by ordering online, might as well order a car too!

More information for the consumer would be nice though, I think both of them will learn a lot about this, neither of them probably have had such a desired car for a long time, Subi may have had some initial demand for the WRX, Toyota haven't had anything desirable in decades!

I don't mind the online system. Yes the launch on Monday could have gone better. But with a limited supply, and no chance of dealer discounts on this car, i like the idea of not having to shop around for an honest, non gouging, dealer. I just hope Subaru does it well from here and provides honest delivery times today or Monday. I am order 586 and it quoted 4 months + when i ordered.

Hear, hear!

I'd rather be able to deal straight with Subaru than go through dealers who choose not to share info with you if it doesn't serve their purposes.

I am pretty resigned to at least a three month wait now, as long as it it around that figure I'm fine - I'll get exactly the car that I want - I can wait for that.

Plus I always prefered BRZ over 86 - front lights and bumper are a bit more conservative and fit better with the rest of the car. And the spec is almost perfect. And WR Blue....
