In time, the rubber would deteriorate and allow the handle to fly off - 8-10 seconds later BIG BOOM - the grenade plus several gallons of fuel, exploding in an unexpected area. So, when the vehicle drivers would hear something rolling around in the fuel tanks, they would get paranoid. In time, the VC discovered they could just put rocks in fuel tanks to send a vehicle into maintenance - humfrz |

One of my very first inclinations when I first heard of this recall was that, if my car was affected, nobody was pulling my low miles engine unless it was Subaru or a boxer specialist--the latter of which would see me footing the bill. There's a couple in my area, who I hear were quoting up to $2000 for the labor. That's still better than being stuck with a seized engine and dealerships not honoring post-recall failures.
I feel like since ALL of the vehicles were built by Subaru that there should have been better coordination between the two companies to offer service using Subaru technicians, especially since there's a boxer engine here. Yes, I know that's not how dealerships work and means potentially longer wait times and a shortage of Scooby techs but the outcome would likely have been better.

This thread is SUPPOSED to be a place to document failures after the J02 recall being performed.
Not about "nam" stories, questions about idiot lights or anything else. All that shit does is piss people off who are trying to stay informed about this. SO- would it be possible for an admin to delete all the useless shit in this thread and get it back on track? Perhaps post a disclaimer on page 1 that ONLY those affected are to post & comment. Additional threads could be opened for EACH specific recall related failure for ppl to discuss with others here, but this thread as it currently stands just wastes time and pisses people off who are looking for FACTS. There has been some significant press given to these failures in the past week and anyone coming here to research the issue will be greeted by this garbage. |

Failure After J02 Recall - Discussion Threads
Quote:
This isn’t the registry thread it’s the “discussion” thread. War stories are off topic I agree. The “significant press” is just one of our members writing an article about his experience and posting links back to our shit discussion threads. |

Not necessarily. A technician who works with horizontally opposed engines on a day to day basis is probably less likely to miss key service procedures than someone who's more familiar with working on inline or V engines, or rotaries... Sure, engines all perform the same work but are not all the same. Not really the topic of this thread though.

Leaving chunks of sealant in the engine or applying it wrong are not issues that come up because the techs are not "familiar" with the layout.

Is your car affected by this? I didn't see you posting before about a failure. Relax This is a discussion thead, on a forum. While I do believe in professionalism, this is the thread that was made for discussion. Anyone coming here will already be acknowledging that this is a forum and that generally anyone can post here. Had you posted something constructive yourself, maybe that request would be acknowledged. Yelling "shut up" at someone you don't like typically does the opposite.

My point is that the procedure isn't the issue. It is basic and well laid out. The problem is sloppiness and that has nothing to do with the type of engine.

Yes, I figured this was an accurate quote and would only go up from there, especially if the work was being done by a 3rd party specialist. My gf lost her XV Crosstrek for over a week for a similar work order on the FB20 engine. The work was done by Subaru in Danvers, MA; the car seems good so far so I'm really hoping she doesn't run into anything.

Throw a 48v supercharger to spool the turbo, ditch the belt and everything attached to it, toss the starter in the trash and we'll talk about the new age of engines. I can't believe how many times I've said this. Slow down. Follow the kindergarten level instructions. Don't blow up engines. And test drive the damn car when you're "done". |
