No, that's a terrible analogy. Unless you have a github link I'm unaware of lol. There is no open source software here.

I love the product, think its awesome, I just hate the name for the same reason that Amish people hate it when non-Amish people sell 'hand made Amish quilts' from china. It's turning something a lot of people worked hard to earn a positive connotation for into a marketing buzzword, which is wrong. But the product is oh, oh so right, so Ill just let it bug me lol.

Lol, thats why i was asking, because i know your familiar with the current software's that are available. I thought you wanted to know if all the needed tables were there.

I think what we need to to move development forward is end users de compiling the rom. I have found hundreds of maps (quite literally) that are yet to be described or "Identified" For example there are 42 tables with the same dimensions, axis values, and data conversion equation as this map vs rpm table.

lol, we are on the same page. I tried to make it as understandable as I could without inserting all the technicalities. You know there are other requirements for it to be classified as open source other than committing/pushing/checkin code to github, bitbucket, gerrit or whatever.

In any case, hope this will make you or anyone else feel better about the ill directed association of "open"flash to open source, no need to let it bug you or wave the open source nazi flag over this device:

Apologies to everyone else sick of the open banter, please keep the tuning tech info coming.

Rombinhood@OpenFlash - Will the XDF's be available only to customers? Or potential customers as well? I'd like a chance to familiarize myself with TunerPro before dropping the cash on the OFT.

Flame wars are our (ie the world wide nets') job. A vendor should only be supplying reliable and repeatable data and product info, along with products that customers can install, test, post about, and argue until the entire population has been thoroughly trolled.

That being said, this post is REALLY not that bad. Even the threads about Visconti drama were pretty well mannered, unless the mods have just been zealous in deleting posts. As openflash and Vishnu's maps are more thoroughly tested and compared to others, the important info will be reaped, the flaming will die down and stickies will be made. Thats how shit works. Everybody smoke a dewb and chill. :happy0180:

Commentary aside, I'm just excited about another (potentially cheaper) tuning option for our platform.

I honestly wouldn't care if it were cheaper or more expensive, I just really had a sour taste in my mouth from dealing with ECUtek as a company with previous vehicles. This is why I refused to buy their product this time.

mad_sb, I will take a look at some of the tables and see if I can help define them. I will not have a chance to really dig deep though until the end of next month.

Awesome, there has been a rom posted on romraider for months now and an xml with all the 2d and 3d tables, none are "defined" but all are listed.

I'm trying to get started with IDA in the next few days to start tearing it apart.

Yea I think mine is coming in today, but I'm stuck at work at this point haha. this will be a joint venture between myself and a local tuner, just so that we can make sure that it's idenified correctly

Just out of curiosity: Does anyone have a simulator to test these tunes on?
I know that megasquirt has a full system simulator to test the electronics on.

If you had a simulator, you could just change values in those unknown maps and see how the system behaves until you figure out what the map does (clearly not a smart thing to do on a real engine)
An full ECU is only ~$650 so I am guessing that a full simulator could be had for a few thousand $$ in hardware ( and a lot more in software).

Just curious. One of my jobs at work is to help build full up simulators of spacecraft systems for testing flight software - same concept.

They are entitled to that, just as you are entitled to NOT have to buy their product.

(this is not an attack on you specifically, but simply a reply to many people saying everything should be free)
They are the ones claiming open source, not us. If it is open source, then share the source code.

Introducing a company/product by immediately bashing other companies/products is terrible marketing and I have zero respect for that. That just means they're insecure about their product and services and have to put others down (falsely) to make themselves look good. This can be compared to a high school bully. You're going to end up a loser while the smart quieter guy becomes the rich and powerful leader.

I am a customer of FA20club and my tune works just great. FA20club has been an amazing company to deal with since the first day I called them. We've done 2 tracks days, plenty of parking lot drifting, and a ton of street driving and haven't experienced issues with the tune. You can see all of this here: instagram.com/chasebays

I have my complaints with ECUTEK as a product, but I have a huge amount of respect for how quickly they were to the punch and for what you can do with it. I want a stand alone engine management for the FR-S/BRZ that can be configured a more in depth. IE: Add and subtract I/O's, allow's elimination of ABS, SRS, Emissions, everything, etc. This is for the guys who are going a little crazier with their builds. As time goes on, more of these builds will pop up. So hopefully soon there will be a solution.

for all of those complaining about the "open source" issue, let me ask you this: When you edit "Open Source" CODE on your computer, do you always use an "Open Source" Compiler?, an Open Source OS?, is the firmware that controls your hardrive open source?, how about your video drivers?

Didnt think so, so quit your bitching.
The ROMs are Open Source

The ROMs are Open Source
then shouldn't it be called openrom instead of opentablet?
