lexus does not sell more cars than toyota and their market is much smaller. the brand the car is under definetely matters. i will be buying it regardless, but for mainstream consumers i could see this being a large factor.

Really? News to me and Ray's Engineering. Forged monoblock stamped into them, the Rays sticker on the inside of the wheels and the fact they still produce TRD versions (mine are out of production) say otherwise.

Scion May Get Version of FT-86

Scion sales were off almost 50% in 2009, and that's apparently gotten the attention of Toyota execs, who recently vowed at the 2010 Detroit auto show to breathe new life into its struggling and product-starved youth brand.

Though it won't be arriving in the U.S. until sometime in 2011 as a 2012 model at the earliest, we hear that the decision is close to being made to sell the FT-86 here as a Scion, thus strengthening the brand's street cred with a legitimate, rear-drive performance offering. It may not even wear the FT-86 badge, possibly trading it in for a Scion-format two letter label.

One person surmised that we might have three versions... Scion, Toyota & Subaru...

Of course, this would mean that all Subaru would need to do to differentiate their model would be styling, and the traditional flat-4 turbo. No need for AWD. I guess it could be an option, but, even for a Subaru, I dont feel it would fit this cars personality unless it had a heavy rear power bias.

And if Toyota makes one too, well, that would make things confusing. More likely a small, modern, attractive Lexus to steal both the G37/335/135 crowd, and the Mustang/Camaro/Genesis Coupe crowd.

Build this on the FT-86 platform and call it a scion



I don't see a problem making a "version of" but making the FT-86 a Scion would be one of the worst marketing mistakes they could make.

^^Agreed. Scions dieing because they changed to to appeal to the masses rather then keeping it the smaller low volume, almost niche market it started as. I hope for the good of this car that it is not released as a Scion; it would be financial suicide for the car here.

Being a Scion is a Good thing for me. I love being the "under dog", I purposely leave the Scion badges on the car because when the other guy is staring at the tail lights, he knows Exactly what he just lost to. This includes

- Z06 (actually did this on a road course today, guy was a noob, but it still counts)
-350z (my own 350z and other 350z's)
-S2k
-Evo
-STI

List goes on.

Is this the car you've got 300+ HP in?

Also if I buy Scion xA and rebadged it to Toyota ist. Is that a Rice? They're the same model, just like Integra & RSX or any other EQUIVALENT cars. You said Scion rebadged to Toyota is NOT a JDM equivalent, but I say Scion rebadged to Toyota IS a JDM equivalent as long as they're same models, just like other equivalent JDM cars.

just one correction. Formula D's tC doesn't really count. It's like saying JGTC's Celica. Only thing that can call that a celica is just outside shell. rest is pure Supra & IS series parts.

Scion has came long away...
