I do see Subarus, though.

If they target $89K gross annual income average Joe, that easily translates into 130-140K in Bay Area, CA.

Let's see. We may have pricing earlier than we think.

I'm confident that Subaru will hit or come very close to the 25K price tag they announced at NAIAS. And Toyota's Scion brand is specifically a low-cost brand. The FR-S at 23K will be already be the most expensive Scion they sell by 8K. I really don't believe MSRP on the BRZ will hit 30K, even in limited trim.
The 2012 Scion tc Release 7.0 starts at $21,635
http://www.scion.com/rstc/

But yeah $23k for the FR-S is about right....anything higher is going to scare people off. Why would people pay $26K for a BRZ premium when the FR-S is basically the same car for $3k less?

The FR-S is going to start at $22k...

That is still a big enough price buffer between the two....

Notice I lowered my pricing predictions a bit...especially on the FR-S...

But, it isn't!

If you are right, I'll be the first to and will cut you a grand if you can deliver BRZ to me at that rate, in case both of my dealers start messing with me.

It's a Subaru though.
Buy an Evora... that'd be well limited ;-)

That is what I have been trying to say too. Its just a Subaru. There has never been a really limited Subaru sold in the states, except for maybe the WRX STI. How many of those do they sale each year.

And 3150 units is not that limited for 7 months of production, well it is somewhat limited to the Toyota 86 if it is true that they are making 1000 Toyota 86's a month for JDM only...

Truly limited is the LFA at a total of 500 cars...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_LFA

"During LFA production, each vehicle will receive a plaque which is individually numbered, indicating the unit's place in the production run. Each LFA V10 engine will also bear the signature of the specialist who assembled it.[46] With 20 units produced monthly, production of the entire LFA will extend from December 2010 to December 2012."

Nobody is saying it is limited like the LFA, but the way they have arranged it with Scion is that Subaru will only get so many to sell, and Scion will get the rest. The way they worded it was "it won't be the Scion you see everywhere" or something like that. I think this is just the agreement they reached so that Subaru would not end up selling them way under MSRP and taking away Scion sales. I think it will be the same relationship as WRX to STI like you said. I see WRXs all over the place but STIs not so much.

edit... found an interesting thread on NASIOC. The 04 STI apparently was supposed to be "limited" as well, people were being told that only 200/month were being made. It turned out they made tons of them anyways because demand was so high.

I only would if it came with:
  • back seats for 2 kids in boosters
  • non-turbo high performance engine
  • decent AT to be a DD
  • decent interior with leather
  • good resale value after 5 years
  • stays in the 'under 30K' price range

Have to cut it for today, as we all have work to do. But stars aligned for me in a form of BRZ for many reasons. My backup option for this car is indeed Impreza, so I'm not entirely worried.

You and I are on the exact same page, not that I was shopping for an Evora.

The reason I'm paying so much more for the BRZ than the FRS is the limited package (I've had bad luck staining cloth seats) and the resale, which I suspect will be higher in the Subaru-happy region I live in.

All this talk bout limited numbers is bunk I tell ya. Subaru and Toyota are clearly worried the economy will cause slower sales on a two door coupe. You gotta consider beyond the enthusiast, there isn't much market left for such a car in this day and age. I bet they will increase production if demand truely warrents it. Additionally I tire of this fear mongering of the FRS losing exclusivity or class from high schoolers and young adults. Not only is most number of units are already spoken for by the same folks who'd buy a BRZ, but the number of teens who can or will get help getting the car will be very small.

FR-S guys are in big numbers, because majority of those are teens and college grads ..., it will be up to fathers\mothers to approve 25K+ purchase.

I was thinking the same thing a couple of months ago.

I hope it is bunk. Cause right now Subaru is making me feel like if I don't preorder this car I will never get to buy one. I'm honestly not falling for that BS. This is a car we're talking about not an exclusive pair of Nikes...but I guess we'll have to wait and see. If I can't get one brand new or even used in the next few months after I sell my car I'll be looking into buying something else. Ugh I hate hype.
