That was my initial thought. Too obvious. Slow backwards evolution (read: stupidification) of man would be rather long, something technology related would precipitate a much faster downfall of society as we know it.

Bingo! Any engineers ie Electrical,Mechanical, Sewage, etc. And throw in farmers & garbage men as well since they would set back life.

Here's a cookie...

Politicians? Anarchy takes down society pretty fast. Money relies on the government too.

Funny, because politicians happen to be the people bringing down society right now.

Although I agree with your statement, he didn't specify a time frame.

Take away all teachers, professors, and educational institutions, libraries, etc. and you set back hundreds of years of knowledge.

For short term, I would say the communications industry would throw society into the biggest shitstorm one could imagine.

Even without the institution of education, knowledge can still be passed down. Destroy technological infrastructure, though, and you send us into the dark ages relatively quicker. Granted he never gave a time frame, both are valid.

I didn't specify a time frame but you made a great point. Dark Ages is a perfect example of what happened when technological infrastructures collapse & the field becomes relatively irrelevant ie. Fall of Rome. Still had farming, still had knowledge, still had some small form of government/community but technological infrastructure gone.
