About 400 miles on her now and the crickets started. Sunoco 94 with ethanol in tank.

After putting a few hundred miles on the new fuel pump installed at 800 the chirping is back at about 1200 on the odometer. Apparently the new pump ordered by the TSB is not a permanent fix in my case.

I've got just over 1000 miles on the new pump and still no crickets... Looks like the pump is working for me.

Mine has been chirping at idle basically since I bought it. *shrugs* I don't think it'll go away until they have a part revision. Given the lack of sound insulation, I'm half convinced that the chirp is going to remain as an annoying character of the car. As long as it doesn't fail, I'm okay with that.

I've heard that even the new 328i has a noisy fuel pump.

So my car started with the infamous crickets this week. Just got over 600 miles on her.
The crickets appear to be intermittent, sometimes they are there, sometimes they are not.

After reading enough posts it looks like that there is no permanent fix for this yet.
All I care about is finding out if the crickets are bad or damaging to my car.

As has been answered a million times already, no, they are not damaging to your car and have zero impact on anything.

Has anyone heard of, or has installed an after market HPFP? Frankly, I'm kinda tired of waiting for Toyobaru to fix this issue... The sound is so annoying!

Any aftermarket HPFP is going to be at least twice as loud as the stock pump with just ticking alone. If noise is your only concern, aftermarket is not where you want to be looking.

Well, if it sounds like a pump, and not like a bunch of crickets. I wouldn't care. the crickets just makes the car sound like it is 15 years old, and on its last leg.

I just recently purchased my FRS and if i remember correctly its had this "chirp" since i bought it. My VIN does not fall under the TSB/Recall, will the dealership still replace the fuel pump in attempt to kill the cricket.

They will replace it. But the chirps will come back because they are using the same part number. Supposedly toyota is desiging a new hpfp to fix the chirps from what my dealership is telling me. But I haven't heard anything more about it. The chirps are annoying and I want toyota to fix it. My dealer replaced my fuel pump once already and will not replace it again until the newer revised pump comes in.....ive been waiting months and they still dont know when new pump will be ready.
But if you are having the chirps they will replace your pump. I know some guys that have hqd their pumps repreplaced multiple times. You just have to be stern and say you want it fixed

Yeah I wouldn't get the pump changed again until they come up with a permanent solution. Changing out a noisy pump for another pump that will simply do the same thing down the line is just a waste of time and money.

Purchased my FRS 6 weeks ago, beginning of April and had minor idle issues and now, at 2900 miles, I hear the crickets. This was only after a 300 mile trip I made last night on the hottest day of the year so far (83 degrees) and when I started it this morning the crickets were gone.

I have an oil change soon so is it worth mentioning to the techies or should I just wait it out until there is a redesigned replacement fuel pump?
