That was absolutely ridiculous, in the words of Vettel himself, Charlie Whiting should go fuck himself.

When Vettel accidentally bumped Lewis from behind while under the safety car, that alone is deserving of a 10-second penalty.

The next part though, when Vettel DELIBERATELY RAMMED Hamilton from the side, that absolutely should have resulted in a black flag.

I agree 100%. I was yelling at my TV. At very least Vettel should have gotten 2x 10 sec stop and holds- one for each incident. Vettel did get points on his superlicense but that doesn't mean anything. I think the hits were the reason Hamilton was slower in the last part of the race. He just didn't have that slight edge in speed he did before the bumper cars part of the race.

The stewards have been much more lenient this season. In other news, how about that Stroll kid, kept out of trouble and got himself a lucky podium. Also, McLaren/Alonso actually scored points??????

Yes, he should have been disqualified from the race.

It was quite the TV day yesterday. 1st the Baku F-1 race, then Indy cars, then the Pirelli series race, the Nascar trying to turn right.

All the blame has shifted to Vettel's reaction which was probably the dumbest thing we've seen this season, yeah sure give him a stiffer penalty whatever. But I'm curious how hard Hamilton was trying to brake check him, his statement about 'the children' is so... warped, he struck the first blow imo. But we'll never know or see the data.

Neither is innocent imo, penalties should have been nearly equivalent between the two with Vettel getting something a bit stiffer and that's how it appeared to play out based on the highlight reel. (Hamilton had a stop-go iirc and had to fix the shoulder pad thingy)

I knew he'd be a solid teammate for Hamilton and challenge him once in awhile, possibly growing into a title contender of his own when in top level machinery, I don't think many people did.

Funny thing someone posted elsewhere, Vettel has never won from starting outside the top 3, Ricciardo has never won starting from inside the top 3.

The British BBC coverage analyzed the Vettel crash into Hamilton with data analysis and onboards. From that point of view it was 100% Vettel's fault. The pace car went slowly through that turn sequence, Hamilton had to slow down and his RPMs evened out but never reduced- he slowed for the corner and never hit the brakes. Vettel should have backed off knowing which corner was coming up.

IMHO Vettel should have season points taken away for that. It's an accident HE created that ended up giving him an advantage in points.

Badass that's cool to hear, that never would have happened in the Bernie era.

I'll have to find that footage.

Edit: BBC article about the incident mentions the data, maybe I can dig up the video later. Sorry, there's just so much fawning over Hamilton and downplaying Vettel's achievements I'm usually pretty skeptical over how the media portrays both.

s.
The FIA also analyzed Hamilton's data and said the same. 100% Vettle's fault.

What a gorgeous, not to mention difficult, track in Austria. I half expect Julie Andrews to come out with a guitar singing "The Hills Are Alive". Still can't believe the FIA wimped out so bad on Vettel. Not really even a slap on the wrist. Haven't been a huge Hamilton fan the last couple of years, but right now I hope he takes it to Vettel this weekend. I would dearly love to see Alonso in the points again, too. Any odds on the Force India drivers taking each other out again?
