I made my own armrest to replace the factory armrest/manual that came in the glovebox.

Used a pre-stitched cover from ebay, from a wrx or something. then used recycled leather for the bottom. wood for the base, and mix of high density and low density foam, first time doing this sort of thing, it was fun and a learning experience.

While I'm not a fan of Alcantara on steering wheels from a long term standpoint, I must say you did a fantastic job. That looks like it could be OEM, very, very nice.

Nice work and resourceful thinking. Can you take a picture of it inside the car?

Thanks, I attached 3 pictures, last one is of it inside the car, did you want a different angle?

Since then, as a temporary fix, I made a cup of high density foam that fits tight on the first holder and added velcro to it to secure the armrest in place. I did find a heavy duty hinge. but attaching it might be tricky without drilling holes in the factory pieces which I do not want to do at this point.

Awesome!

I'm still on the fence about tackling this myself - both financially and tearing apart the entire interior.

How much better is it than stock?

Also, if you don't mind me asking, why did you have to get a custom harness made? (Got that info from your link.)

I had a previous '13 FR-S with the OEM Audio Plus System 400+, the V1 exhaust + UEL was loud on the car and the stock system was weak, so I got the system and it made a dramatic difference for that car.

Unfortunately the FR-S was eventually totaled, but I managed to salvage the sub + amp + dsp. I contacted OEM Audio Plus and they created a custom harness to work with my '17 BRZ and 400+ sub. The stock '17 had better sound compared to the FR-S, but still quite the difference going my "custom" OEM Audio Plus setup -- bass punchy, highs are rich, and mids are filled. I went with all CF speakers this time around, so I'm waiting the 200 listening hours for them to break-in.

As far as difficulty, you *could* do it in one day, but I had another car to use and therefore took my time, especially since I replaced all eight speakers in the car. You might get frustrated if you are working under a time crunch and having all the right tools will save you some frustration (trim removal tool especially).
