I can't speak for Belgium but one problem I know was happening somewhere (I think Australia) was that any new code actually needed to be "approved" for the car to be federalized in that country. If I'm right that might put the affected customers in similar countries in pickle because Toyota/Subaru might not turn in every code revision for approval (probably too expensive), just the final code revisions.

I wouldn't let any untrained mechanic replace cam gears!
Maybe we should add a list of cars with catastrophic failure as well?

Welcome to the club :happy0180: That's exactly what happened to me.

The good thing is it doesn't take them long to replace an entire engine or car

Well - im sitting down here - reading all of the pages - and not gettin happy at all.. Bought my FRS in USA - now its living in EUROPE... And the BEST PART of all of it - there is no WORLD wide warranty... I have 1300 miles on the clock - and idle is still rock solid - car is driving like it shoud, and it was one of the second group FRS that was delivered in the states ...

As i dont have any guys at Toyota dealership - im mostly talking with Guys at Subaru. And as i know a tech section guy there - i will be getting some news pretty soon i guess about this 'fix' and so on... Cuz i told them that im a bit worried if somthing pops up on mine (i dont wanna know price of ECU or VVTi gear....) If somthing goes wrong on mine - i guess im gonna trow EJ25 in there and forget all the troubles...

Update: Put 300 miles on my FRS after repairing VVTI and new an ECU, my idle is not stable. If I let it idle, the RPM surge up to 700-750 every 40 secs. I haven`t heard anybody else experiencing surging mostly dipping. I wonder if new ECU is over compensating for the idle dip. My Scion rep. will be calling Wednesday to talk compensation, I `m thinking about taking arbitration route since my car was in the shop for 40 days.

Look under the hood and see if you have one of these (see photo).

I believe that this indicates that the ECU has been flashed before the car was delivered, although I haven't been able to verify it. The part number "SU003-04522" is the ECU, and I would think that the 2A1JA00C might identify the flash part number. If anyone can verify this I would appreciate it.

Sorry to hear that.

You have an FRS and a BRZ listed on the left. Which died?

Callahan, BRZ, 27XX, 1300 mi, in shop in NC

Noticed the car losing power while moving quickly through traffic. CEL and Traction light came on, P0019. Reflash/replace ECU is in progress, should have an update in the next few days.

So far my idle has been dipping occasionally like it did before. No new CEL so far. I will put mine back on my dyno soon and see if there is a HP difference with this new flash. Crickets are even louder now.

I found one of these stickers in my door after the dealer re-flashed my ECU. Different numbers though:

Looking over some of these old threads, the number listed on my sticker "22765AC812" is the ECU Reprogramming Calibration. You're right that SU003-04522 is the ECU part number. See this thread:

I don't know if I should be added to the list or not. I have been having the idle issue for a while now, and only recently had the rpms drop down to 4k. After that happened the engine just died while I was driving down the road. The car is in the shop now and I'm waiting to hear something. Shop seems obsessed with the TSB for the crickets right now, and are wanting to ignore the idle drop and the fact that the engine just died.
