Call me old school but the only way to truly enjoy this car is by going with the stick shift. This is suppose to be a cheap, small, light, and fun car. The only way to do this is by going the manual way. There are just too many moving parts in an auto for them to be light. Auto also cost more $$. and they are usually not as small as their manual counterparts...

While I agree that stick is the way to go for fun in this car..... Are you still living in 1990's? Autos today are lighter, more efficient and have higher torque capacity. Technology does not stand still. More people drive autos, hence more $$ are being spent to develop them. |

Take the all new 2010 Subaru Legacy for example. With manual tran it weight at 3,275 lbs. The new CVT (auto) version of it weights 3,384 lbs. That is over 100 lbs heavier than its manual cousin. Not to mention it cost more for the auto version. CVT might be better than the old school auto but it is still nowhere as light or as fun as an old school manual tran. |

Regular drivers will mostly buy the automatic, not because it isnt as heavy as its 90's counterparts, or has higher torque capacity, but because its automatic. They don't care about that crap. Posers will buy the automatic because...well, they're posers...there's no real reason to explain them fully. Enthusiast drivers will buy the manual because its about being in control of the car, and feeling the car as you drive it. These drivers also don't care about how far AT's have come because....who cares? You could put an AT in a car that would surpass my own ability shift quickly and efficiently, and would make another driver faster than me because of said characteristics, but I could give two less shits about that. I'd still drive the manual. This topic is still going btw? Its gonna have an auto option. Which transmission you purchase is entirely up to you and reflects, in no way, what kind of driver you are. /end sarcasm /thread |

i hope they leave it as a 6speed manual and thats it, i dont think they should make it with twin clutch or automatic tranny they should leave it old school even though its gonna be like .5sec longer for gear changes lol. and if people wanna drive and own this car they better learn how to drive stick its not hard at all.

I want the 6 speed manual, but a manual only car would be suicide for production numbers. Toyota will have to decide if they want this to be a "viper" type car, as in performance only, or if it will be more like a mustang, acceptable to all and great performance for those who choose that route.
