Same with the dual-tip exhaust, on the newer WRX hatches with the dual-exit rear mufflers, people are saving something like 40lbs by replacing the axleback? haha.
One of the best places to take weight off, too. |

I'm thinking it might not be the best place given the RWD configuration.

Just relocate the battery, to even it out a bit.

Could help.. maybe I can get one of my labs to go "bye bye" with me.
![]() I only mentioned it though because that's the second post he's shown some excitement getting weight of the rear end of the car and I wanted to point out that in RWD the rear is not the best place to start (unless like you mentioned you can balance using other components).

I understand what you're saying but lighter is always better. Except for far extremes, any weight removal you can do is beneficial even if it messes with F/R bias a little. (And yes, I know that noone likes moving weight bias forward) But, taking weight off the edges of the car benefit more than anywhere else. Hopefully the car has a front-mounted battery and big/heavy airbox, so that weight can be taken off the nose too (simple CAI and smaller / relocated battery). That's the absolute best place to take off weight, and can actually make a tangible difference in turn-in. Still, decreasing and centralizing weight is very good. FWIW, I'm not at all interested in drifting or drag racing, but am very much a grip guy. Why would I want to keep from removing weight right below the rear bumper? Even if it was going to be a big enough difference to make the back of the car very light, aero or staggered wheels are better than adding weight to balance the car IMO. |

Yep. we get bored since no one here (that we know of) has actually played with the FR-S. I imagine once the car comes out, and people actually have stuff to talk about other than speculation, the topics will have an easier time staying on topic.

so what will keep the old die hard Sti owner from changing badges. If i can get the similar toyota version cheaper than the STi version and add an aftermaket turbo. Why would i want to pay 2,000 or what ever subaru will charge for their version . when i can have the same car for less. Im telling you i can see many Sti owners angered at this . No turbo no care period . You can keep you NA version subaru you just lost a customer . Hello toyota .

First of all, if you are in the US then it would be hello Scion. And many people agree that Scion demonstrates very affordable marketing strategies for their models. So chances are Subaru might be able to offer more of a premium without the car being as misplaced in the lineup.
All turbo speculation aside, if subaru offered a turbo model for only $2k more you would have to either be a fool or a racer to not want to take that deal. All the parts installed and with a WARRANTY... thats a no brainer. But Im doubting any boost fresh out of production. |
