Placebo. The injectors are still giving the exact amount of fuel they always did. The pump just send fuel to the rail so changing it would have zero effect on how the car runs.

The way people have been crashing lately the time traveling twins could possibly explain the deaths of all the first born male children as well!

Garage
I've been adding 2oz Valvoline TC-W3 oil to my Chevron 91 gas religiously for about 3 months now with no side effects (tbh I think my fuel economy even improved slightly, but I could be crazy), and aside from a couple extremely hot days I haven't heard any crickets at all. It's really the only true solution until the pump is redesigned to not need highly lubricated gas.

I had my car in for it's 12k mi service (14.5k on the car) today and the mechanic was stunned that the car ran so quietly.

If only Toyota/Subaru would fix the low idle RPM on these cars I think it would help even more on those hot days. The car tries to idle at 400-500RPM and thats when you really start to hear those squeaking noises from the pump. Revving the car up to 1k or 1.5k quiets it down.

Update: Post 1 week after new fuel pump on California 91 Ethanol 10% -- No Chirp. Currently about 300 miles on the pump. Already on fuel up #2 from Costco. There is a different idle sound though, the tractor clicking is much more pronounced than prior. Fingers crossed, I'd rather have the tractor clicking than chirps.

Cricket sound vs scary sound? lol I hate the diesel sound. Always think its a lever issue.
