Of course, finding one that hasn't been chopped up and changed to a million different versions doesn't help its case any. There are too many choices for this car.

Here is my solution, although your success at this may vary, depending upon how much your gf wants a relationship;

Get your OWN place, with the following "must-haves;"

1. is closer to work
2. has 4 bedrooms
3. has a garage, to be "always vacant," for your car only, unless its a two-car.

Tell your gf she must move in with you, to look after your house while you're away. Charge her as much of a perctage of rent as she was going to charge you. Toy with the idea of renting out a spare bedroom to a second female, maybe a college student, for the purpose of keeping your gf occupied while you're away, and for the extra income. Make one of the bedrooms into a Man-Cave, and one bedroom into a "She-Shed."

This has worked for me in the past, while renting. I've never tried it while buying a house though, that might get tricky. If buying / renting your own place is out of the question, you're on your own. - Best

As @Tcoat mentioned, that list of "must haves" is hilarious. I've zero inclination to buy my own place until I settle on what I'm actually going to do for a career long term. The plan was to move in with her to help her, and make sure that she doesn't have to live in a shitty area. I wouldn't be paying anywhere close to even 50% of the rent, but the extra couple of bucks can be the difference between "never walk anywhere, at any time, alone" and "hey honey, someone looked at my ass while I was walking home, what a horribly terrible inconvenience".

My actual must haves are:
A decent kitchen
2 parking spaces (indoor, outdoor, whatever. Having a car and a work truck is inconvenient, first world problems, am I right?)
A big enough bedroom so that we can both bring our 2 or 3 dressers each and a big enough closet so that we both have use of it.
A not tiny bathroom

being closer to work isn't a huge factor for me. When I'm not on the road (March-ish to start of December is my work season) I'm not working. I'm sitting at home, doing fuck all and getting paid. But for the odd week or two that I'm working in the office, less of a commute is good, and I can feel less bad about taking my car. Also have zero interest in making a "man-cave" and a "she-cave". Instead of doing that, I could, I don't know, maybe spend time with her? Since I'm only home 4 days of the month most of the year. And if I really get sick of her, my golf game could use some work.

Anyhow, this entire thing may end up not happening now. Her parents aren't exactly fond of this idea, since they're worried that I'll be a distraction to her studies, and could leave her high and dry with a higher rent if things end up crashing and burning. And since I like the fact that I've finally got a girlfriend who's parents actually enjoy me being around (many long stories, for another time) I would rather not step on their toes. Instead, I can just spend short terms at her place when the winter comes along and see how that goes instead.
