Oh I see. This watch is pretty new, probably doesn't need all that right? I'm just scared because they charge you money for stupid crap like removing a link from a bracelet (takes 30 seconds and can be done with a mechanical pencil and your hand, 2 dollars at most).

Speaking of expanding the collection, I kind of like the Beijing beihai T18 slim dress watch on good-stuffs.com, but it's 500 bucks :/ The handwind tourbillion there is really neat too, 38mm (perfect size IMO) diameter and quite slim because no automatic winding part, but I don't have thousands to throw away.

I also kind of like this Orient:
http://www.shoppinginjapan.net/wz025...FYui4AoduAsANw

However the design doesn't turn me on enough to make me want to throw 550 bucks at it.

Not bad. But, yeah not $550 special. Orient dress watches can be ridiculously big, but the stuff in their Star line and JDM ones are more sensible. For that money I'd go for a Seiko SARB065 Cocktail Time. Very unique, but I'd want to see it in person first. I've got a SARB033 and it's the best put-together feeling modern watch I own. Most accurate, too.

I meant the other guy. Not a fan of centri SCs, but these guys' PR is mind blowing.

Your watch and this one:

Are the only two Sea-Gull watches that interest me. But it's really hard for me to justify that kind of money (the tourbillon) on a Chinese watch.

But then I saw the NOMOS knock-offs: And now will never, ever buy from them. Quote this just so you can read the pic's folder name. .../wsgrodinanomos/img_4460.jpg Nomos right in the name. Blatant, clearly not coincidence or accidental and inexcusable.

Rodina just uses the movements though, I think the setup is Seagull factory produces the movements, cherry picks the good ones to go in their own branded watches, and then sells the rest to the companies that make knockoffs.

Watches...I really wish I had enough cash so that I could just browse watch catalogs and buy every single one I liked. However now that I have experience with mechanical watch problems I'm not so sure I'd feel safe dropping big money on a watch that might break.

this week i set a new personal best by cycling to work 4 out of the 5 days. Would have done all 5 if it wasn't for the rain and my lack of rain gear.

why didn't i do this sooner?!

I know, eh? It's quite unsettling to read that A.Lange & Sohn and Patek have 'delicate' movements. Don't know if that is true or just internet myth, though. I would expect for the money that they could engineer a watch that is reliable as well as precise and pretty. But then again Ferrari has always gotten away with glossing over reliability.

I guess the rationale is that others are buying a Patek at the same percentage of disposable income as I use to buy my Seiko. So they have no objections to repair and maintenance costs.

I wonder how people juggle school, work, and interning.. My only solution is work weekends or intern in the summer...
I wonder how you could fit all 3 in one day... That would be insane...
