but they can get pretty darn close

and the argument right now is that they could get closer if the 370z is moved out.

as for the 2016 Miata, I have a feeling it would be a BS car at a minimum.

I think you're right here, the best thing to do is move the 370Z, not the twins. It's very clearly the fastest car in the class and the rest are all pretty competetive. And Jeff Stuart would have won BS in the Z this week, which doesn't give them much room to complain.

And yeah, if the numbers they're saying are true, the new Miata is going to be fast.

The woulda coulda shoulda with Nats results is not without variables. Conditions simply are different throughout the day, with wonky things like driving lines shifting because of OPR, wind shifts, rain, ambient heat, surface heat... It's almost apples to apples, but is Golden Smith vs. Red Delicious in many many many cases.

Jeff seems a great driver, and seems a nice data point, but isn't a proven commodity either. Guys like Heitkotter magically find a second that others can't, proving that a certain top flight talent changes everything. IF Jeff is closer to the top flight talent, his win is all talent and not the car. If not, then it's the car, but we don't have the controls we need to determine anything. Also, certain cars are easier to drive than others, but said aliens can get everything out of it. It's still also possible than none of the twin drivers are more of the alien ilk, and are instead really only getting 98% out of the car. Again, no controls, can't determine.

But you don't class based on what 98% of a car can do. You class based on the theoretical 100%. Theoretical 100% might prove that the twins and the Z aren't in the same league, but there's not enough practical controlled data to reinforce the theoretical. If you had Brian peters in a Z, that's good control. Get Palotta in a CS BRZ, that's good control.

That reminds me of a point I forgot to make earlier - even with over a thousand cars at nationals, there are a good number of classes that don't have top talent in a fully prepared car, or maybe have 1 or 2.

All you can work with is the data that's available. I honestly don't think there's enough evidence of enough of a performance gap that any car needs to be moved. Looking at the results and ignoring any of the factors you mentioned it should be argued that BS, CS and ES could all be combined in to a single class.

Well I finally feel like I am getting used to the momentum car as my previous cars had more than double the power. Fourth run with the BRZ today and I got another event coming up next week. Slowly but surly I am liking this car more and more. If the mistake in the below video happened in my old car, a simple mash of the pedal would not even make it a big deal. Falling out of the power band in a BRZ resulted in a .9 second difference at the end.

Back to your class unfairness complaints

steveo847 >>> What's the armband thing you have on West course? Is there actually green paint marking the cones on the East course?

The arm band was for a pretty sweet camera setup that my co driver has. It picks up a GPS signal from the arm band and will automatically pan, tilt, and zoom a remote video camera somewhere in a safe spot. unfortunately, the wind blew it over and broke the camera on day one, so I don't have any video of nationals. but I do have some from a previous event.

and yes, the course is marked by paint on both courses.

That's awesome. Someone needs to get the SCCA a couple of those so they can broadcast some of the cars in class with it. Really the SCCA needs to put some kind of money into live broadcast/timing at the big events especially nationals. It's not great having a fixed camera on the first and last 50' of the course which barely works half the time.

That was actually his intentions. the system would be capable of it as far a I know. but it could get confusing with the arm bands though.
the system really isn't insanely expensive either.

I was going to play with my clunking sway bar tonight but I've officially given up on the Whiteline 22mm front bar and a Strano bar is on the way. Wish me luck.
