Am I missing any other freebies? I know the battery is a huge saver, just trying to make sure all of the free stuff is out before I start spending money. Thanks y'all!
Are you under or overweight? Myself, I could stand to loose about 60lbs, that is free weight. Just need to get motivated to do it. Easier to shave weight with parts...

I'm about 40lbs heavier than I was 2 seasons ago. So either I need a faster car or to get back to the gym.

Don't really want to spend more money on wheels and tires. I'd rather just use one. I mean I'm not trying to set the fastest times or anything. Just looking to have fun. Plus autox won't be the only driving I do so I think it should be ok if I just go to the practice events for fun.

If you're just doing practices, car classing doesn't matter. It's when you show up, enter into a class and then beat people that they start caring. If you're just going for seat time you'll be fine. When you get serious, then get some lightweight wheels and good rubber for autocross.

does this rule out an aftermarket racing steering wheel minus the airbag?

So this wknd we had a 2 day event. We have a former national champ solo driver in my region and what did he show up in, his new 10 series. Saturday was his first autocross in the car and thankfully he wasn't in stx bc all he's had time to do is swap wheels and tires. Rpf1s and star specs, BUT they were stock size. All day Sat he's beating my times by close to 10 seconds and yesterday it was around 5-6 seconds. Only posting to reinforce the fact that driver mod is the best mod. My plan? Beg him to co-drive a few events!

I've yet to find a past champ that isn't thrilled to ride and help. I doubt you'll have to beg, just ask nicely.

Has anyone raised their rev limit to get a few more MPH in 2nd? If so what has been found to be a safe amount to raise it if any? Thanks.

I've gone up to 7800. No issues so far. Most of the local courses here are pretty tight, usually don't get up to 7800. Although the last course was so tight you could stay in first for the first half of the course. There I hit the rev limit. The nice soft limit.

The courses I run these days use a lot of third gear so I'm shifting anyway so I don't know if I need the revs.

I would not want to run a AutoX stuck in first or not even fast enough to top out 2nd. Eww.

Oh we can still, come close, to topping out in 2nd. One of those driver skill things. This course was more technical than most. Some were still hitting third in the the slalom. The top car time, was an ASP 911. He had a tall first gear and it worked great for him on this course. Hoosiers of course. It had a LOT of transitions and tight sections that kept the corner workers very busy.
Lot of fun

One skill I've been working really hard to get better at is my 2-3 and 3-2 shifts because every national level course I've run is to fast at some or multiple points for 2nd gear. It's been paying off so far.

Practice makes perfect. I have the AT, so shifting is easy, BUT, this is the only spot I have issue with the AT. It would be better I think to have the paddles fixed on the column. Plus you have to hit 4000 rpm BEFORE you are able to downshift. So until you can master this skill, you end up slowing down too much. If you hit it right on, you can gain a half a second. Shifting 2-3-2 is easy, 2-1 is what needs to mastered, for me.
Otherwise I do good. And I have fun.
Heel/toe technique helps immensely. I bought pedal covers so I could set up for heel/toe. It worked.
