Very late to this party. Thoughts...
1. No, I wouldn't buy a car whose capabilites I couldn't use. Lots of folks will disagree, and they may be right, but in my mind one of the main reasons folks buy Ferraris, Lambos, and other incredibly expensive cars is so people can look at them and say, "hey, look, he has a Ferrari/Lambo/incredibly expensive car." I don't give a crap. 2. If the same question had been asked of me thirty years ago, my answer would have been a resounding, "ABSOLUTELY!!!! I LOOOVVVVEEEE THOSE CARS!!!" 3. I've never spent more than $15k on a car in my life, until I paid $17.5K for my used FRS a few years ago. If I was going to drop a large dime on a vehicle, it'd be for something I could use for its intended purpose. Had a Range Rover County LWB years ago, and LOVED it... just hated maintaining and fixing it. Sooo... before I die, I might just find a Gelundwagen in my garage. Still.. I doubt it. Too many other things to do with money.... 4. For instance, a capable plane. Rather than having a car so people can see ME, I'd rather have a great plane where I can go see the world and OTHER people on my schedule. Lancair, maybe... 5. Bikes... love to ride. Never liked sport bikes, nor had any interest in riding one. The older I get, the less I want to risk not getting any older, so I ride less. Used to love taking trips with my wife on the seat with me. Now, I don't. Losing her because she was on my bike at the wrong time would be something I could never live with. Soo.. yeah, I'll probably sell my bike soon, after close to thirty years of riding. 6. As far as short attention spans, the most important thing to reali...... SQUIIREELLLL!!!!!

This is actually an interesting question that I'm glad to have stumbled across. I have often said a McLaren would definitely be my "make it big" car. However, I have to constantly remind myself there are many other cars I like that would easily be first. A cheaper option would be something like an Evora, which I adore.
That being said, the most obvious thing I really want and would consider a dream car even if I keep forgetting about it (probably my mind's way of trying to cope with knowing I'll never afford one) would be a Singer-esque Porsche 911. I don't want a Singer because they are too nice and too expensive. I want something built like a Singer, but to a more lowkey degree. Likely, the 911 I would build/have built would still easily be a $200k car. This is my favorite idea and I come back to it occasionally, fond and bitter. So if the question is "Would you buy an exotic if you could afford it?" my answer is no. But if I had exotic car money? I would buy that 911 instantly. No hesitation. I'd live in a house/condo worth half as much as the car parked in the garage if I could have my dream car and never feel bad about it. |

Given how expensive a parking spot in a metropolitan area is, the real sign that you've "made it" is if you can afford to store that trailer and track car |
