Those with magnetic mounts like Scosche, can they be trusted to hold the phone through track duty? Wanting to utilize my phone for bluetooth/ODB gauges during track days but wasn't sure if the magnets were strong enough to hold through track driving...

I haven't had an issue with mine, it sticks pretty well. I have the metal plate behind a thin case as well. My phone is fairly light though.

Have you had a phone mounted during track events?

I just did this yesterday.

I'm sure everyone has seen mounts like this before. It has a ball joint so it pivots and uses magnets to hold the phone. You put a thin sheet of metal behind your phone case to attach it to the mount. What I like about this version of the mount is it has a screw in the bottom center that attaches the base to the ball. I am going to get a slightly longer screw and a washer so I can hard mount it to the dash and not have to rely on adhesive. I spent a bunch of time on Amazon trying to find a mount which had a threaded hole for hard mounting. I looked at user photos and read reviews and none of the mounts seemed to have a hard mounting option so I gave up and picked this one somewhat at random. I was happy to find out it does have a way to hard mount.

Here is the link if anyone is interested:

So far I haven't been able to shake the phone off this mount. I have an iPhone 7 with an Apple Silicon case. The silicon seems to help it grip the rubber mounting surface of this mount so it doesn't slide around on the mount at all.

That looks nice and clean. I notice that you don't have the arm tied down to anything - is it fairly stable? Some of the Amazon reviews indicated a lot of vibration while driving (as opposed to the flexible section drooping).

Nice & clean .. except if one drives on track with passenger. I think that this way of mount may interfere if knee is pushed against pad & this mount over it when passenger secures his position to be more stable for side-Gs.
Also if using this mount .. imho it's worth to attach charging cable with zip-ties or alike to mount arm, for less clutter/neater looks. (and connect charging wire to cig-plug adapter in glove-box).

Yes, that might be an issue for the passenger...I don't have that problem but someone might. As for the cable, that pic was from when I was using OFT so the cable now is just a thin USB charge cable but I like your idea about securing it to the mount arm.

Initially it was "stable" but after bumping into it once or twice, that was no longer the case. I ended up pulling the knee pad and finding a spot to hook a zip tie, then daisy chaining another zip tie to that to go around the arm as seen below. This setup has worked well over the last 2 years, no vibration or movement whatsoever.
