I've had the car for almost 4 weeks now and several times I've seen people taking pictures from their car with their phones, one guy in an old fox body mustang decided to make a movie and sped up to pass me (had the cruise set at 79-80) as he handed the phone to his passenger and then he slowed back down so I could go back around him and he could finish the full circle. I've had several people ask me in parking lots if it was ok to snap a picture, one guy even me getting gas and pulled off the road just to chat about it. I've been asked several times how much it was and people can't believe that a car this sexy costs only $25k.

When I was test driving one I saw some guy creeping me from his mustang GT, I swear he got a sore neck with his neck turned completely side ways like that. Heck I saw a white one the other day and I almost got a sore neck from checking it out.
Still waiting to get delivery on mine

Last Saturday I went to get the car washed. One guy was asking me questions about the car and what not, seeing he wanted to get one. Seeing he is stuck waiting until August now. Plus this older gentleman was like is that a Subaru? I was well sorta. What was chill about it though, he was like "if I had that car, I would lose my license in 3 months".

Funny experience last night, I was driving down the street from my house and these 3-4 teens at a bus stop, called me an attention whore BAHAHA.

I have had, people act like school girls when they see the car. One guy ended up following me for a good 5 mins. Plus I heard one guy say "Oh My God" out loud of Sunday. Also on Sunday I parked my car near the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and some other FR-S owner parked near me, I wish I met them (they left before I got to my car). Plus there were a few guys amazed that two FR-S were in the same parking lot.

If street interest and magazine/net articles are any indication this car may be the most significant hit since the original Mustang back in the 1960's. Should tell the car companies not all of us want econoboxes.

This is absurd in its generality. Financing a car is not necessarily tantamount to "pretending to be rich." A lot of people (probably many on this forum) finance their car. And why not, if you can get a greater ROI elsewhere?

Confronting strangers at car meets to vindicate your suspicions about their "true" socio-economic status doesn't make you cool. It makes YOU look insecure and pathetic.

I agree with this. Not everybody has 25k sitting around in the bank ready to be spent. In fact, the vast majority of people don't. It's one thing for people who live above their means, but theres nothing wrong with making payments while owning the car.

Without the invention of credit and financing the auto industry would have never got off its feet. While I agree that a person should be able to put down a significant portion of the car's cost, and payments should not be more than 10% of monthly income, I don't think the ability to pay off a car 100% is needed. Unless you are talking about total worth of a person's assets, including 401ks and other long term savings.

problem with financing a car is that people expect they will continue to be k
employ while they have to make car payments. That fine when everything go smooth. However, this expectation is not so realistic for some people. They borrow a lot to have a car and when shit went down , not only they loss their car. Investors who brought securities or bonds backed by these people's car payments get screw over.

Sure some people may say u can make a bigger return elsewhere, but its only true if you can structure ur investment return lining up with ur car payment liability. For regular investor this is only possible if the dealer does not charge interest on the car payment in these days., ie Kia.

Without paying in full, you are making a gamble that ur investment perform at desired expectation.

Expect the worst , hope for the best.

No one is pretending to be rich. This car is affordable and happens to look luxurious from the outside.

And why shouldn't you finance something you like and want ? Do you realise how stupid you sound right now?

Do you pay off your house 100% at the time of purchase?

Some people rather live in NOW than wait for an easier tomorrow. It's their prerogative.

Many of us are working our asses of to a success/money, so we rather not wait for when we're loaded with cash to enjoy our fantasies. We'd like a taste of it now... it's sometimes just what we need to keep us working THAT much harder. (It's exactly similar to going to the gym... when you see those tiny/noob results... the motivation fills within you to go harder)

But then again, there are people who have daddy's money/inheritance and think they are superior to everyone else (even though they haven't worked for 10% of what they 'own') Do you happen to be one of these people? Just wondering.

If you don't have confidence in keeping your job or finding another right after lay-off period, then a new car should be the least of your worries.

I'm 22 years old, I happen to make around 38k a year, I have a few expenses I live on my own (rented waiting for the right time in my life to buy a home) and have some credit card bills, around 4 none more than $1000 balance on them. I usually just pay them off and restart again to keep my credit score happy. I fought for this car to be in my price range and got it for msrp and pay a little over 400 with a very small down payment and an upside down trade-in by like 1k. I certainly don't consider myself to be "rich" nor do I pretend to be "rich". I don't go to car meets, but if any guy was to tell me that I was pretending to be rich by financing my car I'd just ignore him because he probably thinks im one of the many around me who are 16 and have brand new m3's sponsored by their parents, I wasn't that lucky and I'm glad about that. I know that if I was to lose my job tomorrow, I can get another job which would pay me equal or greater ammount of what I earn now (it has happened to me before), and I would never make a late payment on my car or my rent, or any of my bills which have never received a late payment since the day I first got them.

I've had a few guys take interest in the car on the road. One kid circled around me while driving taking cell phone pictures, two kids in a WRX behaved as though it was a moment of revelation, and one guy on a street bike thought it would be appropriate for me to floor the car...all the time. They'll get used to the 86. In time.
