New 2.3, in a Fox body could be interesting.
There are sub-families in the Duratec family. The 1.6L in the Fiesta is different from the 2.0L and 2.3L in the Focus and the 2.5L in the Fusion. Then there is the v6 Duratecs. I don't know too much about the v6 Duratecs except that it includes the new Mustang v6.

The Mazda2 shares an engine with the Fiesta but there's not really any useful application for that. The Mazda3 until 2011 and the NC MX-5 share a bolt pattern with the Focus(2.0L and 2.3L) and the Fusion(a 2.5L).

What I find most interesting is that there have been successful swaps of the 2.3L and even the 2.5L into NC Miatas. I'm hoping that since the ecoboost is still supposed to be "Duratec" that they didn't change the bolt pattern.

Exclamation Confirmed: 2015 Ford Mustang Ecoboost 4 Cylinder Turbo (300 HP)

Via Mustang6G

Just two days after Edmunds reported that the 2015 Ford Mustang would receive Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine as an Europe-only option, Road & Track has just disputed this bit of info and according to them, "confirmed" that the U.S. will in fact get the 2.3L turbo four. Further, don't bet on it being the base engine, either.

More: 2015 Ford Mustang Will get 2.3-liter EcoBoost in U.S., and not as base engine

Want a sub 2500lb mustang? You got it! The Mustang I concept. 1700 pounds thanks to its aluminum body. Two seater mid engine (V4...no not I4) layout.

Note: I do know what you're getting at. I was just fascinated to recently learn that the Mustang was originally intended to be a very light, MR, two seater. Pretty mind blowing. Check out the wiki page for info if you're curious.

As for the 2015, can someone tell me, if a V6 and ecoboost I4 are offered, which will be the base model? If the V6 is axed, will the Ecoboost have more power than the outgoing V6? I find it hard to believe Ford would downgrade the new Mustang performance number wise but I also find it hard to believe they will put out an I4 turbo with over 300hp without hurting emissions/fuel economy.

Not that I would ever buy a mustang but I do have a warm spot in my heart for them. However, Ford's been doing extremely well lately. Nice to see at least one company is learning from their days of financial turmoil.

I told myself when I got the FR-S, that the only car that I think could sway me are whatever the 80th Nissan anniversary 240SX is going to be, and the 2015 Mustang if it comes out as the Euro-styled version. If it's still all muscle, and no-finesse, then I'm not interested.

Poor Mustang; pull E92 M3 track times and still get accused of not being good for anything but straights .

Not any mustang tho, only the boss 302 right?

I test drove the '13 GT although it's plenty fast, it felt nothing like a M3. It just felt huge and not as connected.

Smh at the people fixated on how the mustang gained weight. A 66 corolla weighed ~1700 pounds and a 2013 corolla weighs at least a 1000 pounds more. Emissions stuff, power everything, crash protection stuff isn't going anywhere. I'm hoping they cut a foot off the mustangs length and 200 pounds.

The Ford designers have discussed this a lot, and the fact is that old people are the reason that the Mustang hasn't changed much, much like the Corvette. The fact is, as baby boomers get old, and don't purchase sports cars in favor of beigemobiles, and keeping their classics, their input on "what should a Mustang/Corvette be?" doesn't matter from a sales standpoint.

Yes, the purists will writhe, and whine, but the fact of the matter is that these are going to be Corvettes and Mustangs (and AE86's) of a new generation. That's going to be the corporate facade for decades to come, and considering how the car enthusiast is becoming more few and far between, these facelifts might become even more rapid, and more dramatic.

I think the concepts that we've seen, despite not having the looks, keeps the spirit, and I think that's the important thing.

GT. It won't give you the same confidence an M3 will but push it and it'll perform just as well.

The Boss 302 was putting the burners to the R8 V8 before the Camaro 1LE came and gave the Boss the business.

Either way, the days of straight line only domestics are a memory.

By what standard? Decent interior, loads of power, good handling and a price tag that makes it a serious bang for the buck buy. I'm not getting what's crap about that. Crap compared to cars twice/three times it's price tag? Or crap compared to....?
