As the MX-5 and the S2000 have proven, a convertible can still have superb handling qualities. With the car already designed to be convertible-ready and by ditching the rear seats, an 86 convertible may not have much of a weight penalty over the coupe if at all. It may even have a lower CoG as I mentioned.

I like that shooting brake look especially if it would add some rear leg room. i think someone should photoshop a versions of the production model in targa, and hatch form, not the five axis concept, to see if any of these chops would look good

There are some already floating around. I will see if I can find them.

He's just protecting their first year product. Can't announce a hot future product before revealing a current one; your business fails because no one buys your current product that would ultimately fund your future product.

Hope this is not too OT:

With regard to the convertible and hatchback variations, it is in our interests to have lots of these cars out there because it will bring down the price. At least, that is my hope. Buy what you want and let the girls who answer phones in offices buy the convertible.

Just like back in the day with SOA and the STI that was never coming to the US, but hey here's a brand new WRX...

I guess now I have to buy two FR-S... hard top for DD, and convertible for the weekend canyon carving lol

I think it looks very nice. I'd definitely love to get the chance to test drive one.

:D

100% down if they make it a hard top convertible like the bmw m3 has, but maybe thats too pricey for Toyota to produce.

sorry to bring up an old done to death topic but if the LFA has a hatch i don't see why the hardtop FRS couldn't have a hatch. oh well..

The LFA doesnt have a hatch similar to one which the FRS might have had; the LFA one is clearly just a tiny pane of glass. Which is why the chassis integrity isn't compromised unlike the FRS.

Put the joke on the side, it's interesting to see that, they're planning to make convertible. iirc, while back, I was talking bout if they gonna make convertible or not
This I like. More space for stuff and it looks cool.

Me too. And this announcement decimates the argument from last month about why a moon roof is unacceptable(structural rigidity concerns).

If I buy this car, it will be my first vehicle w/o a moon roof in 20 years!
