Correct, TF Cooling Kit is great, but doesn't work with the AP kit. And The XR2 Cobalt pad is overkill now, as I'm not getting the most out of them, and am moving to the XR3 pad. Just goes to show the efficiency of the AP kit.

So a few more updates:
June 14th - OEM clutch is toast. The surface material is fine, but the center shaft of the clutch is separating from the body of the clutch, and flopping around. You can see where it's chewed up a bit and offset. ![]() ![]() August 14th - Finally bit the bullet and put an oil cooler in. Summer at Sebring we were seeing 290*+ sustained, and the next day we tested at Sebring with the oil cooler (Mishimoto kit) and ended up seeing high 230's* sustained, max 245*. Water temp dropped about 8-10* as well. Also this past weekend at Sebring I got a P0302 and P0300 code, Cyl #2, which has had the coil pack replaced twice already. I believe it's an issue with the spark plug, as that is the farthest away from the heat from the header, so I doubt it's a heat issue with the coil pack. Will change the plug and report back.

Nope, I only run with Chin Motorsports (one of the reasons is that I'm one of the managers.) Come to Sebring with us in October!
We're also going to be doing a night DE in December (and possibly November).

NASA has a Sebring event in October I am doing. A couple of my S2000 buddies already bailed on Sebring this weekend, but I am still planning on going.

So after 6 months of running the BBK, I want to provide some insight on my consumables of the AP Sprint Kit (what you can use to justify to your wife/significant other why you "need" this kit!)
Before the AP Sprint Kit, I was running OEM calipers and rotors with SS lines, Cobalt Friction XR2 pads, Torque RT700 brake fluid with the Touge Factory brake cooling kit. Tracking the car for about 2 years in that configuration, I was going through pads every 3 days on track (sometimes 4 if I was easy on it), and rotors every 7 days on track. I installed the AP Sprint Kit back in March, along with fresh Torque RT700 fluid, and now have 23 track days on the AP Sprint Kit in the past 6 months (6 days at Road Atlanta, 10 days at Sebring, 2 days at Homestead-Miami, 1 day at MSR Houston, 2 days at VIR and 2 days at Barber). So far I have gone through 1.5 set of pads (first set Cobalt XR2s, second set that is currently installed - Hawk DTC-60s) and am still on the original rotors. So, to compare and break down the numbers.... The OEM setup was costing me approximately $85.76/track day, while the AP kit costs me $28.46/track day (estimating the rotor replacement at 25 days, which is very conservative, as they just have normal heat checking on them now). Including the initial cost of the AP Sprint Kit at $2,099, the AP Sprint Kit LITERALLY pays for itself after 38 track days in my case (wear/costs of consumable may vary depending on track, experience level, etc). For me, that's less than a year of track days. These numbers do not include caliper rebuilds, band-aids for busted knuckles constantly working on the OEM brakes, etc... Here are some numbers and a chart to give to your wife to justify your purchases . Thanks again to Jeff @JRittand the Essex Parts team for their support throughout the purchase and installation process, as well as checking in with me routinely post-sale. Great group of folks, and I highly recommend them. ![]()

Nice way to break down the data.

smbstyle, do you still find bbk without duct is adequate for your application? Is there any uneven wear, pad knockback, soft pedal issue when pad is worn more than 30-50%?
I am running oem caliper with TF duct and raybestos racing pad. The pad easily lasts for 20+ track days and upkeep cost is minimal. But uneven wear and pad knockback kills me. I am considering bbk kit mainly for reducing uneven wear and knockback. I would like to know how your bbk performs in this department. Thanks. |
