I just realized the other day that the current Evo is more or less identical in weight to the Ford Mustang GT, a vehicle I've always considered fairly overweight.

Utterly unacceptable

Oh yea I forgot to mention this, but that looks like a substantial rear diffuser, hopefully this means the underbody comes mostly smoothed out for production or else the diffuser is just for show and that would be retarded. They did it on the Camry SE apparently so I think chance the FT comes with a nice smooth underbelly is pretty good

the whole light weight (less than 3000lb) evo thing died with the evo VII due to car building rule changes in wrc and the starting chasis grew the weight grew too tho now its just grossly overweight

the evo has loss some of its allure to me considering mitsu put its face on a bunch of their cars and every poor joe out there has evo hood, plate relocate kit

I like the way the evo differed from the lancers that made it special

Anyone else realize that the car they used on the track had the power windows and door locks and not crank windows and manual door locks...? Kinda crushing my hopes for some weight savers :/

Modern power window systems are lighter than cranks.

I wonder if all this weight savings you guys are going to do will be beneficial? I would think you would need to get rid of 300/400+ lbs to feel a difference in a car like this. .1-.3 seconds extra acceleration and a small difference in handling feel?

It's true as least for even older miatas and sentra SE-Rs. Having replaced both numerous times the crank stuff has always been heavier even from different cars.

Acceleration is directly related to mass (weight). Assuming you can still get traction, etc. then reducing the weight by 10%-15% (250-375lbs) should give you a noticable increase in acceleration (it probably approaches an asymptote in real life because of other factors). My guess is that a 10-15% decrease in weight would provide a 8%-12% decrease in 0-60 times for the FT86 @ 200hp, 2600lbs...

Not necessarily.

The difference can vary (ounces to maybe several pounds) between the two. Actually the actuators for the door locks and power window motors weight more than the manual door lock cables and manual window mechanisms. For ex, a p/w motor is about 2-4 lbs depending on the type of vehicle.

I'm sure there are exceptions but generally power weighs less in my experience.
