I placed a deposit on September 11, 2021 with a large dealer (Downtown Toyota in Toronto). I've contacted the dealer for updates multiple times, and have received nothing but 'the order is in progress' on the few occasions that I get a response.

Am I being unreasonable to want updates from the dealer?

I understand the supply issues, the unique allocation system Toyota uses, and the fact that this is a low-volume car. But I thought putting down a deposit back in September (especially with a large dealer) would have given me a good chance to have the vehicle for this summer, which looks increasingly unlikely.

Was I being completely naïve? For those that have already received the vehicle (especially in Ontario/GTA), when did you place your deposit?

They probably don’t know any more about where it is than you do.
They must have received their allotment by now though.

at this time customer order requests will automatically be flipped to the new model year to keep "priority". Dealers do have to reconfirm the order once it updates, howver 95% of the process will be done automatically

Your dealer is lucky to even get an answer. I spoke to Boucherville Toyota yesterday and they wouldn't acknowledge that they have one incoming... they were just willing to take my info and contact me at a later date.

Likely just the way the transports schedules worked out. I would think we will always see them in groups by region.
