A millisecond power interruption/failure on the robot is my random guess...

I dont remember in which thread I saw it, but someone that actually works in a manufacturing plant chimed in and said that if that happened with any of their robots, the machine would shut down and require a reset.

I have not read all of the above but option one is great. I can understand the clear bra issue. Here is my reasoning: Its aftermarket, its your property, it is not damaged or related to the damaged piece. You can still do what you want with it whatever that may be. Its like if you had an aftermarket license plate holder that you could not remove without damaging it for some, in this case, fictional reason. Why should a company care about your belongings that you did not purchase through them? It does suck but if you got into an accident that totaled the car the insurance company will replace the car and not the clear bra or your other non damaged personal belongings. Essentially the ''insured'' part, in your case, the whole car, is being replaced, they don't have any obligation to replace your ''non insured'' personal belongings. Dont get me wrong it blows but the fact that they offered option two tells me that legally they didn't need to replace the car and that it is a gesture of good will/marketing. I would absolutely take option 1. Hell by then they will probably have a few more bugs worked out anyway.
To the OP, thanks for keeping the community informed, and to Toyota, thanks for not being a prick.

^They are replacing the the bra areas on the car if I do have it replaced. Their reasoning for why makes sense, since unlike a license plate frame, clear bra is not something you can re use. It is actually adhered to the vehicle for one time use.
I sent a few questions to my rep this morning and talked to her on the phone as well. She has been quick to respond on things so far, so hopefully once I hear back from her I will be able to respond with my decision and get things going. |

My Rep called and told me that they are sending me one of these RC FRS Cars they made. It will be black. They are really being nice and going above and beyond for me now. Very cool of Toyota.

Sounds like they are "be a man, do the right thing!"
Replace car, extended warranty (oil changes?), replace clear bra. Then they can take your car and use as demo car. Everyone wins! Nice rc car

I have a firestorm version of that same R/C. I'm glad they are trying to make up for everything. It's the right way to try to keep the customer happy at this point.

Oh they are replacing the car and the clear bra. The extended warranty was an offer they extended to me if I were to keep the current car. The RC car was just because/ regardless of my decision. A token of their kindness I suppose is the best way to put it.

Nice job man, really fortunate outcome. Just hope you don't get another one like mine:
"What is happening is, there is an Actuator in the timing setup or VVTi (variable valve timing (intelligent)) and well over 30% of the actuators made are faulty. they are failing to advance or retard the timing of the car properly to allow the car proper acceleration and cause RPM fluctuations like you were noticing. Toyota is actually rebuilding the entire top half of some customers engines because the problem is so severe, HOWEVER they are NOT informing their customers of this. I am good friends with my technician at Toyota and he said that he had done the job twice now, and that over 200 FR-S have already been repaired for the issue and about 20 of those are already showing signs or problems again." --Hotlava86 Last edited by alrashwa; 08-24-2012 at 03:59 PM.
