Does this mean a bunch of standard Yellows are about hit the market for cheap? Sounds good to me lol. Though I think I would prefer some cheap B8s

I can't wait for this to go on sale. I'm definitely going to get it.

I am conflicted. Part of me wants to get it and be truly competitive, but not allowing an oil cooler and header+tune is a deal breaker. I like to autocross, but I want to start going to track days and an oil cooler is a must.

STX allows all that...

So to compete in the class do you have to run the spec tire? What constitutes being on an underprepared tire?

Edit: and can I run a 17x7.5 +40 but still use a 225/45 tire whether it be the Spec tire or something objectively less capable like a 300 TW tire?

Don't know yet. Some are saying the pieces are required, some are saying OEM is ok if you don't run the required pieces. Will have to see how it shakes out the next few weeks as details come in.

Stage 2:
Tires: size 225/45R17, minimum tread wear depth. The spec tire brand will be named later this year
Wheels: 17x8, minimum 17 pounds, minimum wheel offset 40

And wheels/tires are "Stage 2". Don't even know how that will work yet.

I can't imagine you'd get any complaints, since you'd end up in last place. The spec tire will be under $600 a set, you aren't going to save much/any money on worse tires.

Get 2 sets of wheels, one with the spec tire and one with daily driving tires. Swap them at or before events and you'll save money. Autox will ruin a daily tire, even a higher tread wear one, pretty quickly (mostly through camber wear, which often causes the tire to become very loud on the highway).

From what I heard, it's spec or OEM. I would be surprised to see them allow non-spec tires.

yea, but like in any other class, if you show up on crappy all seasons no one is going to complain.

Well I ordered the stage 1 package for $1767.50. TireRack called me a few minutes later and asked for my SCCA membership info otherwise they have to cancel the order. I'm joining now to complete the transaction.
