I guess the Toyota badge confuses people really bad, but one time I was speeding down the road and was being tailed by someone in an older Lexus, came to a stop light, and he pulls up next to me and asked me to roll my windows down, he first said "nice car man, what kind of Toyota is that?" Before I could even answer he said "are those the new celicas?" I laughed and gave him a quick speech about the history of the car.

Another time I was walking out from the grocery store and this older gentlemen was walking behind me, he saw me unlock my car and just had this big what the fuck face, he was so confused as to why I owned this car (I just turned 20 so I'm fairly young), I guessed he assumed it was an expensive sports car, as he walked by he looked at the car once more and then looked at me again and said nice car man.

LOL, makes you just want to say "Yes" and nothing else.

I was discussing "canyon carving" with a few women at a wedding reception this past Saturday and one asked what kind of car I had. I said "Scion FR-S" and got a "WTF we're done with this conversation" type look from them.

Then one said, I really want a Subaru! And I piped back up and said "Yeah, mine is actually a Subaru!" and got another "WTF" look.

I had my car parked outside of a tap room the other night - I was inside the tap room sitting at a corner next to the window, and my car was parked around the building and out of sight. I had just sat down and started to relax when I saw a frantic little kid run up to his father (whom was sitting outside) and flail his arms, jump up and down, and beckoning his dad to get up.

I didn't think much of it, and realized that I had left my phone in my car, so I went to get it. As I came out to my car the kid was standing in front of it, pointing at it and acting very excited, telling his dad to look, look! The dad said in a very cute voice to his son "aw yeah, look at that fancy car! It looks like a race car!"

Perhaps that's not a direct compliment I've received, but it made me <hearteyes hearteyes>

I love getting kid fans. Happens often I notice a 10 or 12 year in the next car over, staring in awe. For me that children can recognize and appreciate beauty, thats a sign of the existence of God :-)

Speaking of kids...

When I first got my FR-S, I met a friend at the local mosque and after prayers we came out to the parking lot. His 5 year old was with him. I hadn't told my buddy about the car yet but we slowly were walking towards it, small talking. His kid walked right infront of the FR-S and was admiring it. My friend was also having an eye orgasm. I thought of that VW "kid Darth Vader" commercial...

So I leaned over and said to his 5 yr old "watch this". Put my hand out toward the headlight and pretended I was using "the force".. Then with my other hand in my pocket, I pressed unlock on the keys and the blinkers flashed. They both jumped in amazement :-) Friend looked over eyes popping out of his head and says "no way this is YOURS!?"

Few minutes later as we are pulling out of the parking lot, he is with his wife now.. Rolls down the window and says to his wife "now thats what I want next.."

By the time I got home she had already called my wife and they were mutually complaining about us being bad influences to each other LOL

At the time when the Twin was subject of speculation and appearing in mags under the Toyota banner I found it easy to explain to non-car fans that it was the new Celica (Silly-car as I like pronounce it). They could then pigeon hole it.. since owning the BRZ I can't even say that it has a twin as just starting to explain what it is I have lost them.
