Well I unpacked the kit today to look at all of the components and I have to say everything looks to be of very high quality. Furthermore, the packaging could not have been better, everything is snug and very well labeled/separated. I'm assuming this will also make the install much easier. The only problem I have now is this thing is sitting in my house and it's making me even more eager to get it installed!

So, after much going back and forth, I decided on the WORKS Turbo kit. I know the haters out there will bitch and moan, but for the money, reliability of the components, ease of install, and power levels that I'm looking for it's a no brainer.

I created a thread on the entire progress (http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87595).

Performance

WORKS Motorsports Stage 1 Turbo Kit (will be upgrading to stage 2 in the future)
Open Flash Tablet W E85/93 tune's (will be switching to ECUTEK when turbo is installed since tuner only tunes with ECUTEK)

Perrin Panel Filter

IKON Motorsports Cat back Exhaust (Q300 Replica) with custom 3" mid pipe.
Manzo Engineering Front pipe, will be replaced with custom 3" front pipe.
Manzo Engineering Over pipe, will be replace with custom 3" over pipe.
Borla UEL Header

Exterior
Perrin Shorty Antenna
Rear STI Style Diffuser
Gt86 Badge
Toyota Front Badge
Toyota Rear Badge
Winjet Black Housing Headlights
Buddy Club Tail Lights
GodSpeed License Plate Relocator

Suspension/Wheels
TRD Lowering Springs
SPC Camber Bolts
XXR 530's 18"x 8.75 +33
Michelin Pilot Sport 3's 235/40/18

Interior
YoSpeed Center Plaque
Raceseng R Shift Knob in Black

Near Future Mods
Works Oil cooler

Stage 2 Works Turbo Upgrade
AEM Tru Boost w gauge pod or P3 vent gauge
Exedy Stage 2 Clutch
Exedy light weight Flywheel
TRD painted spoiler
Seibon Paint matched DV style hood
Bason-R lip kit
WinJet Fog lights

Cost comparison of replica vs. authentic parts:
IKON Motorsports Cat back Exhaust (Q300 Replica) ($299.00 vs. $723.00)
Manzo Engineering Front pipe ( $100.00 vs. $207.00)
Manzo Engineering Over pipe ($50.00 vs. $340.00)
Rear STI Style Diffuser ($60.00 vs. $685.00)
GodSpeed License Plate Relocator ($30.00 vs. $69.00)
XXR 530's 18"x 8.75 +33 ($525 vs. $1515.00)

I'm in no way suggesting these are equivalent, however, what I am suggesting is that for the money it was well worth it. The compromises allowed me to mod my car the way I wanted without having to get out a second mortgage on my house.

Reviews:
Phantom ESC- I ordered the Phantom ESC before I even picked up the car. I think it's safe to say I was way over zealous. Anyway, after my break in period was over I installed the kit.

Install- the kit is by far the easiest of any Forced Induction kit out there to install. Installing it for the first time takes about an hour, but after that removing it can be done in around 30minutes for dealer visits or whatever the case may be. It takes very little mechanical knowledge and basic hand tools.

Performance- The Phantom Esc gives you a tremendous amount of torque down low, much more than even the traditional Forced Induction kits offer, that cost three of four times as much. You will spin tires if you go WOT from a stop. The added torque allows you to pass other cars with ease, and makes driving this car in a straight line fun. Driving with the system unengaged feels just as it would driving stock. The added horsepower is nice as well, however this might be the only downside when compared to the traditional FI kits. The ESC with E85 and bolt on's puts you right around the 230 wheel horsepower area, while impressive, it's lacking compared to other kits. However, one must realize it's also a lot more affordable.

Tuning- Tuning the ESC with the OFT is as simple as flashing a new map. The map is free if you own an OFT and works perfectly without any tinkering. Shiv has managed to work his magic again. Tunes can be had with E85 and 91/93 octane for the ESC.

Quality- Components of the kit are very high quality and durable. Rob makes sure everything is tested over and over again and all faults are taken care of before his products are released to the public. Additionally, if an issue does arise he will answer back in a very timely manner and always provides a solution. This is truly a quality product, and a developer who stands behind his work.

Overall- For the money this kit cannot be beaten! It offers a huge increase in torque, a hefty boost in horsepower, very simple installation, flash and go tuning, consists of reliable high quality components, and is backed by its producer 100%. With that said will this kit feel the same as a Traditional FI kit? Well, depends on the kit, but most likely no. The powerbands are different. This provides much more low end torque where most traditional kits offer a lot more top end power. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. For the price point though, this kit is unbeatable.

Thanks you sir! It's been killing me not having this thing turbo yet, since all my old cars were. Still love the 86 as is, but will love it even more when my turbo goes on!

As a side note...out of all of my cars I miss the 3000gt the most

Honestly, I wasn't happy with the quality I was seeing in their kits. I don't like the idea of having to weld in new joints, or port a new wastegate to prevent boost creep, or replace the o rings in the new wastegates so they don't tear, or the CEL issues, and back firing through the intake issues I was hearing about. But, yes being poor definitely played into my overall decision ha ha.

I was and still am considering the SBD kit. But after joining the facebook group and seeing how vigilant you need to be as far as staying on top of things, I'm looking more now at the WORKS stage 2.

I've still got my part-time boost going, so until I make my decision I'm going to live vicariously through you and your WORKS kit.
