Once again, another review in the rain. I guess they are planning it that way. Anything can slide in the rain :/

Cool video though.

I'm a layman when it comes to drift sport... household names like Tanner Faust, Ken Block, and Ken Gushi come to mind. But Gushi stands out as the kid who messed around in an AE86 before he was 16 and drifts a tC (spokesperson no-brainer all the way). And not to sound racist, but nobody mentioned he ethnically matches the car makers! It's more delightful/entertaining to watch Jeremy Clarkson or Tiff Nedell review the Elise rather than some foreigner like Keiichi Tsutchiya (which I have seen that BMI episode btw). Dorikin would be an interesting FR-S spokesperson but he lacks American presence.

A review by Tyler McWho belongs in some drift sport magazine to appease drift aficionados and not confuse us mainstream laymen.

That last drift bit got me all hype.
This car can't come any sooner.

And the interior looks way better in those natural lighting pics, versus those overshopped concept-looking pics.
And that radio cover looks great. Totally cleans up the dash.
Alas, the wheel's got that fat, chrome SCION logo though. Oh well.

Ken Block is rally and gymkana not drifting.

Ken Gushi as a Professional started with an s13 then went to Ford Racing then to Scion. If you want an ae86 O.G. you need to turn to Alex Pfeiffer, Taka Aono or Hiro Sumida.

If you don't know Tyler McQuarrie you need to get to know. He is a winner unlike Gushi in the recent past.

It's disgusting. Hopefully it will come off easily and just leave an impression on the leather(ette), which I would be fine with.

Bottom line is more people will instantly recognize a name like Ken Block who is plenty capable of showcasing this car in a drift even if he isn't officially a drifter. To be the talking head for a brand you need the overall package - instant name recognition, good looks, personality/presence blah blah blah. Tyler McQuarrie and those others I'm sure are genius raw talents but I won't let them speak for my brand if they lack PR cred. Being the #1 drifter alone is not enough to assume a marketing role.

Though I'm sure they're drifting greats, I don't have the motivation/interest to read up on them. I'm not buying this car to enter drift competitions. I just want to hear news about it and hearing from someone I'm already familiar with will have greater impact.

You know what Ken Block and Ken Gushi have in common? They both are outside of the top 15 in their comparative motor sports but have strong sponsorship because of people like you that care more about the marketing hype than real driver skill. I for one believe this car is more than marketing hype and wish the spokes person was a capable champion.

No offense, and this is my opinion, drifting isn't a competitive motor sport, it's sports exhibition like figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics. Yes, the drivers are athletes, and yes, a few of them can probably be competitive in semi-pro auto sport, but to me, drifting is where you end up if you can't drive a real race car.

To me, this argument over Ken Gushi vs. Tyler McQuarrie is no different than Vanilla Ice vs. the
.

Flame away...

:happy0180: No offense taken. Your prejudice isn't hard to see but ya seem completely aware of it.

However, ya may want to look up the definition of competition. Both figure skating and rhythmic gymnastics are incredibly competitive.. Hell, they are olympic sports. More then can be said for any form of motor sports.

You seem either intimidated or confused about the sport of drifting. Which is understandable, especially if you don't 'get it'. Change the parameters of the racing line, the carry speed, the braking points, the precision & accuracy of going around a race track and translate them into the 'drifting paradigm' and there are a lot of similarities.
