Just trying to figure out what would be the best way to go and the pro's and con' of each.

We'll I just started reading over the thread and came to the conclusion that I gotta find a tuning shop in NJ cause I have no clue on the tuning aspect of it. I mean all I have is a Perrin LWP and ordered the Perrin CAI so not like I have crazy mods

Not sure where Ft. Dix is, but Visconti may not be that far a drive for you.

Google says it's about a 2 hour drive. Because of traffic and road conditions in the city, I'd recommend taking the Tappan Zee bridge instead of the George Washington Bridge as Google advises by default.

I'd recommend talking to @Visconti about the ECUTek reflash. A little more expensive than the unichip, but hard to beat the performance.

It's all good bro, I'm an Information Technology Director and I rarely keep up with the military world!

Long story short, a Piggyback like Unichip does not require any modifications to your ECU and if you remove it, you are completely back to stock. A reflash like ECUTek requires your ROM to be re-written, and even if you flash back to stock, a footprint is left in-place. Reflash has the potential to provide more functionality, whereas the Piggyback (as it stands currently) is limited as it can only change the values going to the stock ECU to force it to do what it wants within its existing programming. Oh and cost - Piggyback is cheaper than Reflash.

Unichip is 1990s piggyback technology and EcuTek is new century technology ECU ROM flashing. I'm not sure how you being an infantry marine is relevant though.

I run Unichip and love it. I've been very happy with the results. The car runs great and is always consistent. No issues what so ever. In theory you can probably reach a more optimal tune with EcuTek but I've heard some people complain about having to reflash tunes often and some glitches. If I was going forced inducted, I'd go with EcuTek but Unichip has worked great on my N/A setup. That's just my experience, I think either option is worth the cost.

I'm in Bordentown, grew up in Browns Mills. I recommend @moto-mike over at Moto-East for an EcuTek kit and tune. He's the most relatively local tuner we have, and he's offered great service to me thus far. And he doesn't charge an extra premium for the 'famous name' like some other tuners around these parts are getting away with...
