We use Ohlins shims on all our 510 & Dreadnought assemblies. It just makes building the shocks easier and consistent. For example, you can purchase a lot of 500 Ohlins .38-36 shims (pictured). Before we use them a tech measures each of the shims with a digital caliper. Out of 500 shims, maybe 1 shim will not measure out perfectly to .38mm thickness and 36mm in Diameter. I consider that very impressive considering that a difference in shim thickness of .01mm can make a impact on valving profiles. The malleability of the Ohlins shims are also very consistent. Considering that the shims cover up the piston ports and eventually flex to let oil through the ports, shims are very crucial. They are even more crucial on shocks that are running lots of force and digressive as the shims flex more. If you look at some lesser quality shims, you will see different grains in the metal and that usually has an impact on consistency from one shock to the next since the shims do not flex the same. Taking things one step further, if you look at some of the Taiwanese and even Japanese manufactured shims....well most are terrible. It is literally impossible to have a matched set of shocks. This is one of the main reasons why we stopped using Asian shims in our shocks for a few years now. |

Just curious as I don't know much (anything really) about your company and thought others may benefit from the information. In the same vein, are you able to offer custom valving and/or spring rates?
