here you see the 9.1 psi pulley is just not tuned, it performs worse than the 8.5 and as low as a 6psi setup may do at redline
infact, you see peak power falls off adversely at 7080 rpms (this is at another spot where they have a Maha) my car is not tuned for 9.1 psi yet |

look at the stock brz curve 155whp is accurate
then look at mine I love how we havent made this into a different driving car we made it into a better driving car both turbos and pd will, imho, change the feel of the car- thats just my opinion If anything the centri graph just keeps pulling offering tq where oe band isnt as wide |

Visconti found the same problem when he was tuning the vortech kit. No benefits to going from 7 psi to 10 psi pulley. He said he could run more timing with the 7 psi pulley and that is why it made more power.
He said to get more power from the 10 psi pulley better fuel would be necessary. This completely contradicts Perrin's results with the two pulleys. |

198ft lbs a reality with Vortech
198 Ft lbs POSSIBLE, indeed, its more like 198ft lbs a reality with Vortech with the 9.1 psi pulley, we were able to get great TQ at a lower RPM than with the 8.5psi pulley, so Like I said, the motor welcomes more boost down low, you just need to sorta ramp off the rate of boost generation towards redline
I think with the right tuning the 198 TQ line can be extended across a wider range, and offer the SAME pull pull pull to redline feel that makes this kit such a joy to drive. This is where your tuner shop comes in. Vortech has given me all the tools I need to work with, and this concludes what I have to share today, I am confident we can harness the extra boost on hand with the right tuning and fuel(s) I will be back with more data to share in the days ahead, and sadly will be outta touch with the BRZ for a few days http://www.azlro.org/rally/index.php/news/rally-news see the "trails list" midway down and you can see what yours truly is also up to- I volunteer as a 4x4 and rock crawl guide, and go as slow as we can, an exact opposite of the BRZ, which is as fast as possible, whenever posible! Hope you enjoyed my pics. I will try and answer what I can but will have limited access to internet in coming days. Thanks! |

so dont jump to conclusions yet, thats why we are still all testing, and the setup for sale is 6-8.5 psi, that is why I am starting THERE, thats whats known and safe as a departure point. All these posts really prove is that there is potentially more possible with the Vortech kit. Why, 200tq, 250HP(or even 200TQ/239.5HP is FINE!) sounds pretty sweet to me as my next step. This is all without extending redline too, so if you really need to reach up top, we still 'can'. And all this without having to really deal with any heat management, oe radiator, oe spec oil, and all from a pretty simple and clean fewest points of failure kit, no added 3rd part pumps, no added water plumbing, no added oil plumbing, oil cooler truly optional, not direct heating of oil, no turbo timer, and a wide power band with constant linear power from 2800 right up to redline. (ehm)if you look closely at my 8.5 hp& tq curves, however and the 'other 8.5' curves, you will see they are actually different, but I cant dwell on this as its too close to treading on forbidden turf, but its all in plain view for those who wann do the math and have a look, perhaps... I am looking forward to doing more testing with Perrin soon, and will update you here as that progresses. Remember this was just the start of my looking at what to do with my car after getting it back from Vortech. I dont see the need to do much more, tho, its oh so good right where its at. really, I just want to mess around and see what else there is to play with from here, but thats not to say i may just come right back to here, after all testing is said and done. very nice for pump gas. This is what is important! I can't wait to see you test out a wastegated setup to control boost.

Good stuff Gem! Sorry I couldn't make it out today, was sleeping since I have work at night. I'll have to come out to Sedona sometime to see how my turbo behaves up there and maybe swap cars to see what all the hubub is about. I would come play this weekend but I'm gonna be getting my drink on in San Diego for St. Patty's day. Of course I plan on some fun on the twisties out there, hopefully some Palomar and Sunrise Hwy, and 94E for sure.

Gotta say I was hoping for more than 239 whp on your super secret upgraded setup.
But glad to hear there's potential for more, and looking forward to what you'll do with the car. |

Secondly, this kit is technically sold with a 6psi pulley, unless you raise the rev limit. So people shouldn't expect 239/200 from a stg1 kit. Just wanted to clarify. Third, Scottsdale is 1250 ft above sea level. I think you listed 1400 which is rather generous. I think your numbers are corrected anyway, so it doesn't really matter. It's going to be hard pushing it much further than what you have, at least safely. Visconti had troubles with the 10psi kit on stock fueling. You had troubles with the 9psi pulley. This tells me that the drag of the supercharger will ultimately limit power to what you made on stock fueling. Still, 240/198 is neat little "boost" to this motor. If I were you, I'd slap the 10psi pulley, pull back the higher RPM timing and enjoy a really nice, flat torque curve. |
