Options for those damn headrests?

Post a picture of yourself sitting in the seat, I guess I just don't see how people have trouble when the seats are so adjustable. You may need to recline a little more than you're used to, but even slightly reclined you're still very upright and engaged.

Another option I guess is to measure the hole separation and maybe there are other headrests from other Toyota/Scions that you could swap in. That may cause issues with insurance later if you get in an accident, I don't know.

Okay, so we learned that the headrests work great for many of you and I think that is wonderful. The I agree the seats and the seating position are fantastic for this car.

What I can't believe is that you guys have never been in a car that had headrests that you could adjust the tilt to accommodate all drivers.

The redesigned 2011 Mustang originally came with the same style headrests and the forums were lit up with people who had the same issue along with people who were offended that anyone could critique their beloved car. There were enough people who complained that the late 2012 cars came with tilt adjustable headrests. The aftermarket also came out tilt adjustable head rests for those that did not get them from the factory.

So, if the headrests are perfect for you that is great, for some people they are terrible regardless of seat position or height adjustment. If you have something positive to offer I would really appreciate your assistance.

I don't think I've ever had an adjustable headrest in any car I've ever owned, wife included. Anyway, I'd see if you can swap as said above, that's probably your safest option.

I would be interested in less slanted ones as well. I don't drive ghetto, so a normal headrest would work for me.

I have seen a lot of headrests with adjustable angles. Most fixed ones tilt a bit too far forward for my taste.

Perhaps someone here that has made armrests and upholstered accessories can modify an existing one if sent to them. Problem is there is no guarantee of satisfaction.

Another possibility is buy the headrest(s) from a written off one advertised in the classifieds and modify it.

I agree with khyron686. Personally, my head doesn't ever touch the head "resraint"(thanks for the correction) while driving. I will rest my head on it if waiting on the wife to run into the store or something. Of all the cars i have ever owned or driven I can't think of one that has had tilt adjustable head restraint. On that note, I hope you find what you are looking for.

I don't mind, just thought I'd put out my two cents the thoughts of many other buyers.

Replace the entire seat or see if you can replace the headrest with another from subaru's/toyota's lineup?

But yeah, pull the chair in a bit and tilt the seat back more.

It's the same for me, my head never touches it. I've found that if I try to sit back while driving my FR-S I feel nervous and less able to drive properly. I have to sit up, and slightly forward to drive right. Drop the seat back a couple notches and sit so your lower back touches it, but nothing else.

I had the same problem the OP has. I did not own a sports car for 15 years, I kind of forgot how I'm supposed to be sitting in one. I was too used to be sitting straight up and I was sitting like that in FR-S. It made my neck sore after about an hour. Then I learned from this forum about what whaap and Khyron686 said. I adjusted the seat that way and it really felt awkward in the beginning sitting so laid back. But after a few days, I got used to sitting that way and now the seat is 100% comfortable. I believe this applies the other way around too. If I set the seat position of Prius the same way as FR-S, then I would feel uncomfortable in Prius too.

I have these on my seats between the main seat back and the headrest. It puts your head in perfect alignment and fully supports your neck. They are also reversible, so the TRD logo won't show. I am 5' 8" and with these pillows I am totally comfortable.

Before I put them on, my head always felt like it was pitched forward. I highly recommend them for anyone with this issue.

You could always remove the headrests altogether.
