Same here for me. Trip A gets reset with every fill up along with resetting the Average. Always done this on all my cars. Only exception is I don't use an app to track overall.

My math shows the car reads anywhere from 1 - 1.5 mpg higher than I actually get. But overall, I get great mileage in this car relative to how much fun it is.

I reset my trip and average MPG every fill-up. I also keep a log on my computer and on fuelly for every one of my fill-ups.

Reset on every fill up, always fill up, don't put in 6 bucks worth. Then you get a reliable (mostly) estimate.

Also use Fuelly or monitor mileage someway. I have a very pretty color codded excel doc that shows miles drives, gallons used, cost per mile, cost per gallon, and a few other things. It's very cool to see a few years worth of mileage on a vehicle.

Go to this link to get my file for my old Sentra, anyone can adapt it for themselves, but Fuelly does almost as good of a job with less effort at this point. I got this car with 11 miles on it and it went through the gas price rise of '08 so it's pretty interesting to look at.

Should be cool to see what my BRZ looks like after a few years. I do this with my trucks as well, but that's just plain scary...

You should see what I do in my SPARE time!

Got a nice one for vehicle costs, shows what you really pay for a vehicle by the time it's paid off. It's depressing as well. Who'd have thunk that over 15 years you could spend over 150k on cars without ever buying a luxury vehicle...My wife leaves the room when that one's open.

I just do a simple XLS tracking service history, etc. That's depressing enough (..especially since I've owned 15 Porsches).

i left the room on several calculations over the years,so now if i don't have the scratch,it don't get done! complete waste of money if ya don't hold on to 'em,and just really obtuse to purchase by "note" especially extrapolated out to 5 ,or 7 years! (hot damn!) (nasty!)

Yup, I use it to show how much I've saved by paying off a few years early, makes me feel better about the whole depreciation thing!

I don't usually pay attention to it unless I'm going on a longer road trip. The best I've done on one of those was 37.4mpg.

I wish the car had a perpetual ave mpg that showed the average for the life of the car, but it doesn't so I have never reset mine so far. I reset it right before I pulled it off the lot and never since. After 7500+ miles according to the car computer my Avg MPG is 31.4 .... I do the math every time I fill up gas to see each tank so I have a mental note and it's usually between 28-33, but I'm just curious what other people do.

no point in saving the trip, i deletes records after a certain amount of miles, i havnt tripped mine in 20k miles and i can go out to the track or burn up a tank hooning around for a day i can get it to go from 31 mpgs to 24 in a day then back to 31 over the course of a week (its an average over the last 1000 miles or so)

It measures the ongoing average from the last time it was reset.

Reset it when you fill up and it will give you a more accurate representation of the MPG of each tank. FWIW, It will still be about 1mpg too generous.
