@thorlius glad you made it safely! Ice is not nice.
Had my back end come out on me a bit downshifting on a 401 off ramp with winter tires a few weeks ago when the temps got up to 16 or so. Hello!!

So how are everyone's windows doing with the winter weather/freezing rain? Must be hard on the mechanism no?

My windows seem fine but the auto-down doesn't like the extra resistance because of the cold. The door-open window nudge has been slower/stiff a couple times. I hope the door will be able to open if it's -20 and the window can't budge. :S

Have had problems a couple times after the 2 light snowfalls/freezing rain we've had. Windows have jammed and the 'auto' lights on the controls started flashing. Luckily after searching on the forum, I found a quick fix! Also, the solution is apparently in the manual as well....haven't looked though. I am concerned a little since, yeah, it must be hard on the window motor! Have heard of some people using a lubricant so the window doesn't stick to the seal...not sure if it's working for these people or not.

I now keep my snow brush/scraper in the trunk now and scrape the drivers window before getting in the car. I have been and still am a little paranoid about the battery going dead and not being able to get in the car. I have two carseats in the back and they would block any entry into the vehicle through the trunk.

Good idea, my brush is now going in the trunk!
Hope I never have to go in via the trunk, it would be quite the scene. LOL Had to do it with my Mazda once but there was a little more room to manoeuvre.

If the battery is dead couldn't you just unlock the door with the key and open it ,the door still opens if the window is frozen

Coincidentally enough, I had this problem start this morning. I had an appointment set up at the dealers who hadn't heard of the issue, but the fix worked so I was able to cancel the appointment for next week.

Maybe it is an unfounded concern, but, a friend of mine with a Mustang (also with simple shut windows) had to go through his trunk because after storing his car for the winter, he realized that the battery was disconnected, but, he didn't crack is windows down an inch.

As a result of this conversation, I was under the impression that the window goes up into the top of the door frame gasket. No power and/or no movement of the simple shut window would result in no way of opening the door.

Would this not be the case?

Same! Just open the door very carefully so you don't damage the seal, shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks, makes me feel a little more at ease. I might still keep the scraper in the trunk, but, I'm certainly not as paranoid.

That issue really doesn't warrant an extreme amount of concern. I've done it multiple times, always making sure to not ream on it too hard for good measure.

If Toyota manufactured these to shatter windows daily during Canadian winters I think they'd have a very serious matter on their hands. I have more faith than that.

I guess if there was enough ice or snow to bind it up that bad, I would be more concerned about the impending driving conditions.

So far, so good though - I have yet to have it stick at all.
