A short block is just the engine bottom end. Ive seen these terms used loosely so give or take some parts.
a trans is not a part of the engine, therefore not part of a long block assembly.

Wait what? please stop talking. Balance can and does cause catastrophic failure ALL THE TIME. and an L6 is not "naturally balanced" stop reading things on the internet and facebook and believing them so someone who doesn't know anything believes this garbage. an IL6 is better for balance due to having an optimal crank length, but not "naturally balanced"

Alright, hotshot. Then please explain primary and secondary balance forces in motors and the effects of dampers vs undamped pulleys when it comes to the torsional forces a crankshaft sees.

That will certainly clear up some garbage.
Thanks.

Can you tell us more details about your last oil change? Forget this pulley paranoia.

Car is running good, still have the cricket but never went in for the service for that.

Oil change was pretty standard, did it at Longo and they're pretty good with stuff. I think the tech that works on the FRS there has an FRS to. But haven't heard any updates from Toyota regarding cause.

So we shouldn't bother reading your corrected statement then? Good advice.

Didn't finish reading this whole thread, will continue after this post, but do you think the intake and pulley would void any warranty you had on it?

It didn't in this case since Scion did all the necessary repairs as warranty work...

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have put it back on the new motor if they had a suspicion that it was the cause of the failure.

Service tech wouldn't tell me what happened but some other workers mentioned a problem with a rocker in the can shaft. Made a hole in the engine.

Back on the road, if hear anything new I will post up more info.

This is crazy I got a replacement long block not too long ago same symptoms and pop goes the motor. My service techs have refused to tell me what happened too. Even the engineers who flew out didn't say anything other than both cam shafts bent and broke through the valve covers.
