Go to SEMA and you'll find RICE there. The only thing I love to do to a car is a rear lip spoiler, rims and a mild drop. I dislike everything else.

The Tommy Kaira bumper for the 86/BRZ is the definition of rice.

Anything that's too much or too tacky constitutes as rice, IMO.

You could stick Eva Mendes on your car with double sided tape. You saying you don't want her?

To me rice is all about context. Sure it might be cool to see a flashy loud car in a movie or at a show but thats because the context is that everyone is trying to get your attention. If you see that same car driving around in everyday life you think that person is WAY too desperate for attention.

Thats a strong statement :p

Personally I'd say most things I perceive as "rice" are cheap modifications intended to make the car look "fast". large spoilers on FWD cars, fake hood scoops, and such. Colors/mods don't necessarily make a car "riced out," but cheap parts imitating aspects of better cars are usually what I refer to as "rice".

Example: crazy painted wheels are gaudy but not rice, whereas a brake caliper cover intended to make the caliper look like a big brake upgrade... now that is rice

What is rice? A derogitory racist term used by self-centered douchebags to demean other people's cars just because they don't approve of their particular modification style. The term jumped the shark and lost all meaning, however, once I started catching people using it to slander cars that were (unknown to the douche in question) in stock form.

If you don't like a particular car, either keep it to yourself or come up with a more articulate way of expressing why you don't like it. Don't use "rice".

Cheap functionless bling is generally a pretty good starting point. Anything made in China also a good bet.

IMO on a street car then yes, but it's not always the case

Lots of factory aero uses double sided tape.

I view it this way. People who criticize what someone else does with their car are possibly:

1. Jealous that someone else is getting attention
2. Think their own opinions about style are right and everyone else is wrong
3. Bored and should find a new hobby if all they can do for fun is criticize other people for being different.

I say don't sweat it.
Follow what catches your interest or looks good to you.
Whenever I've heard someone criticize something I did, I think to myself:
"Why does this upset you so much that I painted my wheels/painted my radio bezel/lowered my car ? ....etc...."
I don't understand why people sometimes offer negative opinions about your personal choices. It's not a good way to make friends.
All I can guess is that these people have issues that they have trouble dealing with, and they will be difficult to please no matter what you do.

And on the other side, people often make friends by having things in common with others. And sometimes the things that bind people together (for lack of anything else) are the people that don't like "stanced" cars, or VW's, or Chevy's, or Ford's, or plaid, or Nirvana, or Nickelback, or whatever else.
I try to accept that not everyone likes everything about me (and hope that some people like some things about me, lol). And if I really don't share someone's opinion or enthusiasm for whatever they are into, I'll try to understand where they are coming from, but I don't have to pretend to like the same things they do.
I also don't have to tell them their car is ugly, or tell them they are stupid to do XYZ to their car. I'm a fan of, "if I don't have something nice to say, just let it go".

Well, that was quite a ramble. Sorry, haha.
Just do what you like though, as long as it's still safe to drive on the roads
There is no right or wrong when it comes things like spoiler or no spoiler, stickers or no stickers, 5 spoke or 6 spoke wheels.
