I have worked in higher education and currently in business myself and I have graduated with a degree.

If you don't have money for college now, go to class anyway. Preferably at a 4 year state school if there is one near you. Don't pay tuition, just show up to class. Talk to the professor and say you want to enroll next year but don't have the money so you would like to sit in on his/her class just to make sure you know what you want to study when you do have the money. Networking with administration and other students is a GREAT way to find jobs in industries that would otherwise be hard to break into.

Do this for a year and then when you have the money, take your gen ed classes at community college. You will not waste any time or money because you have taken the courses before and know the materials. If you keep up with your network, by the time you do get your degree, you'll be set with a job.

If at all possible, DON'T get a student loan from a bank. First apply for federal financial aid and pell grants. You don't have to make payments on those loans as long as you are in school and even after you graduate you can negotiate the terms to repay. If you are good at negotiating you can get your payments way down and end up paying less than what you borrowed. Apply for every grant available, even if its a grant for single black fathers with 4 boys under 10 years old who play baseball (yes grants get crazy specific), most grants go un awarded only because nobody applies for them.

Just understand that college is not just a degree, its a network of people. Degrees don't hire you, people hire you so get to know people and have the degree as a formality.

Honestly every field is hard if you don't have your heart into it. If art is what you love follow it. Statistically lawyers and engineers have a hard time finding jobs now.

Save up get this car later. Your mom needs your help.

Making animated movies requires huge numbers of artists of all sorts - it entails all manner of line drawings, sketches, clay models, as well as, of course, the drawings that the audience actually sees on the screen. Ask at the schools about career opportunities. Look for artist communities for support and advice. Even look at job postings on producers' web sites. And it's not just movies; games also require lots of graphic artists. Also, consider increasing your options by planning on studying both 2D as well as 3D.

Btw - drive beaters until you're through college. But don't go to college and blindly pick a degree that looks fun or easy. Pick one that there will be many good paying jobs out there once you graduate, otherwise you end up with a Bachelors of Science in Sociology, and working at Starbucks with 16 year olds.

This is A question for those of you who don't have 27k easily laying around.

My question to you: At any point in time did you feel bad-even guilty about getting this car?

I only ask because I'm 22, work two jobs and been saving for this for a few months now. I make after taxes around 2k a month, I feel like I should be saving this for college or I should get my mom a new car-both of our cars are on their last leg...(err wheel) so to say. Mine breaks down a lot, my friends have wealthy families so they just got done graduating from 4yr college and have nice new cars...and well just for once I wanted to get myself something at this magnitude...but now I'm feeling guilty. Why are they entitled to these kinds of things and I cant?
Would it be the right thing to do to get my mom her car first? Should I feel guilty? I really want this...The first time I saw this car in person my heart stopped and I just knew...
financial aid is a huge help with school. I feel the pain you are going through but like other members have said at the end of the day its you that needs to be happy. when I purchased my 2007 yellow z06 I had insane payments and I stressed over meeting all my debts but if I felt stressed I would get ion my corvette punch the gas and the stress melted away, the same will happen to you im sure(minus the going fast part )

that being said i do regret buying this car IMO ts a huge piece of crap I really wish I kept my vette or for 2 grand more bought a new 1ss camaro. I did it to save money went from 690 a month to 119 for the frs and saved 155 a month on insurance; however seeing my dealership keeps screwing me, and my car has been in and out for over 32 days now I plan to lemon law and get my money back. If I can't well then i'll get a SC kit. either way im sure you will make the right choice even if it doesnt feel right at first. good luck

P.S. Be happy this is even a choice for some people would kill to have this car but can't afford it nor afford college, so it could always be worse.

Without reading all the messages in this thread... I say... do what you want to do... I know plenty of people with degrees working at walmart making 10 bucks an hour... and I know people (myself included) working much better jobs with nothing more than a HS diploma.

Whatever decision feels right for you is the decision you should make. My FR-S was purchased strictly out of impulse and I've not had an ounce of remorse.. I'm a bit more financially able than your description shows but I had a brand new car and didn't need the FR-S. I only WANTED it... so I bought it.

After all the warranty issues wait for a later model they are in the works at making them faster and more reliable mine is going today back to the dealership for the fourth time for another repair I say keep saving and buy a better one in a year or two... If they keep making it after all the problems

Go to school and learn how not to write sentences like the one above. I took out loans for undergraduate and graduate school, as well as for my FR-S.

Being in debt is no cake walk, however I consider it an investment in myself. Little by little I chip away at the total each month.

Yeah, my 3 college degrees in aviation must not have thought me how to make a sentence on a cell phone. This is a cheap car and it has problems I would save for a bigger down payment on a later model. A car in this price range is not really an investment because it will never be worth what you paid. I bought this car to get me around town and keep the miles off my Z06 because it cost 4 times as much.

I agree that the FR-S is not an investment. My intent was to say that college degrees are, and as such I find it hard when people shy away from education in lieu of a guaranteed job, etc.

A degree alone won't guarantee you a great career, still need direction and a worth ethic to make it something.
