I love driving the M3 with SMG paddles. That car is a blast. Mini cooper paddles aren't even that bad.
The bad autos are the eco autos and early pre 2000's sports cars with auto. CVT is my definition of losing the love of driving. |

Seeing as how the purpose of a company creating a product is to make money, along with the fact that I like Toyota and would like them to stay in business, I have no problem with them "selling out" aka "maximizing profits".
More options are always better than fewer. It does not affect me in any way that they offer my car in automatic. If I was one of the people who wanted an automatic but they didn't offer it then it would bother me. I have no issue with Toyota making those people happy too.

Put the car into Neutral, then rev up the motor. And once it hits redline, then drop it into D then HOLD ON!!

Every car, sports car, grocery car, whatever crap car was a stick back in day. EVERYBODY COULD AND DID DRIVE A STICK. Get off your horse with your attitude "people can't drive stick crap, that is why they get automatic".. it is no big deal. I was driving stick when I was 13, not hard at all. Driving stick at Dragstrip. Driving stick to work. Automatic was and is a premium option. Has nothing to do with ability to drive a stick or some kids idea of what a sports car is or should be. and therefore does not really make more people buy it becuase it is auto. However, it may be true that automatics are everywhere because the demand is so high as most people do not even change channel without a remote. Driving experience...lol |

Dear OP,
I bought an automatic. I drive at 9/10ths every chance I get. I don't get the idea the car somehow isn't a sports car if it's not manual. F1 cars have had automatic (by your definition) transmissions for years. So yeah I voted for the idiot one. |

I'm sure at least a dozen people have already said this but whats wrong with offering an auto or semi-auto. If it increases sales, then there is a higher likelihood that Toyota will keep making it. If giving people an inferior product allows them to make money and still meet their needs, I'm all for it. If you are really that dead set against Automatics, here is an idea BUY A MANUAL.

Guys, settle down, OP is merely asserting that he has the biggest e-peen here because he's driven a stick since he was 13...that makes him a man, no doubt...
PS...Your sarcasm detectors should be going batshit crazy right now... |

For all the esoteric arguments about the relative merits of transmissions, I remember what driving is most of the time - pretty boring stuff. For a trip to the store, a commute to work or driving in traffic - driving a stick is better for one principal reason - it gives you something physical to do while you are basically just sitting in a chair, holding a leather covered wheel and looking at the ass end of other cars and endless acres of gray asphalt and concrete.
Everytime I get in my car, I get a challenge. It is like a puzzle. I have six forward gears, reverse and a clutch. I am not such a great driver that every shift is perfect, or that I don't screw up sometimes. But I get to try. I get to improve. I can test a new technique, try to heel and toe or try to maximize my mileage. There's a lot to do with a stick - and that's what I like about it. I use automatics too. I like them fine. But they are boring to me. I don't feel superior to people that have automatics. But, I feel a little bit sorry for them. They can't have the fun I have being a mediocre shifter who is always working to get better at it. |
