Here's my fearless prediction to date:

Scion FR-S, one trim level:
*180HP 2.0L boxer w/6 speed manual w/torsen LSD
*The usual power steering, brakes, windows, doors, mirrors
*Old school ignition key with remote keyless locks and immobilizer
*~12.2"x1.0" brake rotors w/floating 1-piston calipers
*Stability control, TC, ABS, CBC, EBD, BA
*double wishbone front suspension and multilink rear suspension [hoping the Subaru transparent concept is misleading]
*2+2 seating, manual seat adjustments, fold-down rear seats
*6 air bags; front, side, head curtain.
*projector halogen headlights w/LED tails and marker lights
*17" alloy wheels
*nice black or silver/black 2-tone cloth upholstery [no zippers]
*6-speaker stereo w/ single CD, bluetooth [simple phone answer/hang-up button], analog aux-in, and USB input w/iPod control
*leather wrapped steering wheel w/audio buttons & tilt/telescoping

$24,995.[/QUOTE]
Though I think its basic, I think you hit the nail on the head. It sounds more realistic & what toyota will probably shoot for! Keep in mind the other competition out there & pricing for more.

Another reason why Scion sucks!

The Scion lineup uses a one-trim, simplified purchase process,[2] and the marque has relied upon guerrilla and viral marketing techniques. The Scion name, meaning the descendant of a family or heir, refers both to the marque's cars and their owners

I'd probably go for something only slightly above a base model. Leather (or Alcantara please!) steering wheel and shift knob, and perhaps a USB stereo connection if no delete option exists. If horsepower sits around 200 N/A, and weight at 2700 or so, I can see no more than $24k for something like that.

Everything the Toyota/Scion execs have been saying repeatedly hammers home the car is all about light and basic. Expecting luxury trappings and unnecessary accoutrements like Nav and leather seats and sunroof, huge brakes and wheels just isn't going to happen for a relatively cheap low volume car. There are no economies of scale here like a Camry or Corolla.

There is very little competition for this car. The Miata, MINI, and Genesis Coupe are the only sporting cars that pop into my head that are in the price range. None of them are particularly feature-laden in base-model form, and scratch $30k when they are well-equipped.

I'd be fine w/out a CD, as it's just extra weight and complexity that's rarely/never used.

I do believe the car will have side and curtain airbags, otherwise it would be well over a generation behind in passive safety vs. everyone else, and Toyota doesn't usually put themselves in that sort of compromised position.

Hopefully Scion springs a dollar or two for some nice LED taillights, but you might be right that they'll be bulbs. You're probably also right the car will have MacPherson strut. The big problem with that prophecy is struts require a relatively tall shock tower and thus high hood, something none of the Toyota/Scion concepts have had up to this point. The entire spring has to be over the tire, and from the side profile shots I see, none of the 3 concepts have enough room for a strut. Either Subaru's version will be unique in having front struts, or both versions will be styled much taller than the concepts, which will definitely push me away as a buyer.

Cost of USB playable setting.. ~40-80$

Cost of that option in Scion car.. $200~.

lol

I wish they would get rid of the CD player as well, physical media is getting less popular, and I haven't used a CD player for years already. However it's likely they'll include it just because it's something people expect to see, although I wouldn't really worry since the CD playing part is very cheap and light. However with a high power sound system they'll need beefy amps and that would be something.

I personally don't listen to music so I hope they cut the audio to the basics, just so I can hear the traffic radio when stuck in a jam or something, although I realize most people are not like this. I don't see what's wrong with just 2 speakers, this car isn't going to be all that quiet, so I don't see how you'd be able to enjoy your high quality music.

That last part reminds me of the S2000. You cant even here the music going 40+ mph with the top down. That was by far the weakest stereo I've ever heard in a car lol.

They won't cut the music, that'll kill sales.

Scion can get away with using option packages like Mazda does for its vehicles. Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring would work phenomenally with this vehicle.

I'd kill for a $23,995 MSRP but with 18" wheels, fogs, and spoiler on a Sport package; 18" wheels, fogs, leather, sunroof on a Touring package, and 18" wheels, fogs, Pioneer sound, leather, sunroof, Navi on a Grand Touring package. Bonus points if they're somehow able to budget in an alcantara steering wheel.

My Celica is pretty loud and with the stock audio, it's very easy to enjoy high quality music. If anything, a high quality sound system is needed to offset a loud car. Thankfully, the stock system in the Celica is incredible.

But besides, an extra two speakers next to the rear seats will weight like 3 pounds. You can always take them out if you're trying to save every ounce.

Scion does not use trim levels. Their cars are all monospec, save for the manual/auto choice. Even the stereos are dealer installed. It's part of the marketing plan. Why is that so hard to understand?

FM transmitter = $18 off of amazon. Plus they work with any device with a headphone port, all you need is a radio and you're set!

I like a lot of the Scion colors, especially from their Release Series. Murasaki is one of my favorites. Cement is really neat in person, too.
