Maintenance Plan?

I'm picking up my BRZ in 2-3 hours and the dealership says they have a 3 year maintenance plan including oil changes for $900.

Scam?

Shopping Maintenance Plans are just like shopping cars. 900 sounds like a sick price for a plan.

I bought the 45k plan myself. I don't remember the cost but I think it was well over 900.

Another added benefit of picking up a Subaru Plan is that they will usually give you a 500 discount coupon good towards your next Subaru puirchase.

Cool. The dealership also gives free tires for life as long as the maintenance is done there. Even if I were to let them do all the maintenance they only offer the stock tires for life and they are only covered due to normal wear.

Assuming you follow the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual -- 7.5 months or 7500 miles between oil changes, you'd get between 5-6 service visits in that 3 years. That equates to around $160 an oil change. Pretty pricey if you ask me.

Mine covers 7 oil changes, 6 tire rotations, 1 air filter, brake fluid, etc.. These plans are there to "save" you money if you anticipate following the service manual to a tee.

If you plan on going the jiffylube/shadetree route, then no plan will be good for you.

To the OP, I was given 2 year complimentary maintenance plan by my dealer. Thats' 5 visits free. Ask if your dealer can match other dealers.

Please decline and keep the $900.00 in your pocket.

I got 2 years free maintenance with the FR-S. I may go there if it needs an oil change over the winter. I had the free service on my last car and never used it. It's just faster and a whole lot more convenient to do oil changes myself.

And then I don't have to have the service advisor try to sell me their special maintenance package where they lubricate the slide pins on my calipers for $180.

I got two years free as well. Even if you go to the dealership for your oil changes and scheduled maintenance, you will spend well less than $900 bucks in a three year period.

My last two cars I bought new and went to the dealer for every scheduled service. I had a 5 year old Mazda 3 and have a two and a half year old 370z convertible. I have spent less than $900 in scheduled maintenance total for both those cars.

Read the owner's manual service schedule and note what things are actually replaced during the first 36 months. Modern cars need little more than oil changes and tire rotations for almost the entire warranty period.

I wouldn't be so sure, dealer prices here are in the triple digits for the 15K, 30K, and 45K services. Plus with the normal 7500 mile services costing about $80, it adds up quick.

I go by what the service schedule in the warranty booklet says. I'm looking at the booklet right now and it shows nothing but oil and filter changes and tire rotation until 30k and all that should be free for everyone buying new now anyway -- Subaru deal according to my dealer.

At 30K it shows brake fluid & air cleaner in addition to the rotation and oil change and then nothing again until 60K.

I don't see that coming anywhere near $900 bucks
