![]() Drifting in first is fine, was part of my break in processes. Pounced it off the rev limiter of first and second for a few laps on a friends property. The car is really good with itself. |

I let my friend drift a few turns and tomorrow I'm taking it to Adams motor-sport park in Riverside, CA. Its a good place to learn how to drift and also in a safe environment.

Yeah my advice is research your local tracks. Find their website and investigate their event calendar. They will usually have weekly/monthly drift practice, split into skill/experience based heats which will become your main track day. It may be intimidating though to start there as a complete noob. In that case look for the beginner drift days, usually they will provide instructors or at some tracks the full lot inc. cars, helmet, fluids etc.

I was driving home in the rain a couple of days ago and I turned off all the driver aids and just flung the car into a corner in second....best thing ever. The car just gave me a beautiful little drift at a low speed, joy of joys.

If you're going to initiate with the e-brake be sure you clutch in. (push the clutch pedal) otherwise you will be ripping the hand brake on a spinning driveshaft.. |

Don't do this on the street, do this on the track.. blah blah aside.
A large empty parking lot is glory with this car!! I find that when the wheel speed is high, and the vehicle speed is low - there doesn't seem to be a hard wall hit on the limiter, it seems to just keep it in a happy place and stay on limiter while the wheels are spinning. When vehicle speed = wheel speed, the limiter seems to hard cut out... i can only guess it was designed this way, with the purpose of drifting and hoonin in mind.. love it! |

We totally support closed courses and safety precautions and being mindful of your surroundings. :happy0180:
Now assuming you've got a good private parking lot to play, here's something I wish someone had told me early on: Empty parking lots are fun but you can develop bad habits just aimlessly doing donuts. Put a couple cones in the parking lot and use them as points of reference. Don't just go in one direction -- do figure 8's. It trains you to keep your eyes up and get comfortable with weight transitions. |

I did donuts for the first time the day before I totaled my FR-S. Found a church parking lot in the middle of nowhere (which had two light posts unfortunately) and lit it up. It was way more fun than I expected it to be. I was super super paranoid the whole time though that a cop would come and cite me. How do you guys do donuts in parking lots without fear of getting in trouble? Also, I secured my vanity plate for the new FR-S: "DRFT KNG". XD Trying to poke fun at my incident. Those in the know will get it

I haven't done a lot of "drifting" per say with this car. I have slid it around a few turns (I lie ALOT of turns) just for the fun of it and this car USUALLY does it amazingly! I am slowly learning to maintain my slides as apposed to just sliding for an instant and stopping, but I can for sure feel this car is going to do just fine learning to drift.
