Given the resale value of old gen, I would have gotten rid of mine for 2nd gen. It's always value you get out of money you spend. If I could get 25k after 5 years (given I am seeing 2018 for 25k), I would trade for same car that's new but in this case you are getting much more. That's just my thought process, not advice.

Hugely objective, but personally still find the lines of the 1st gen more pleasing to the eye. Personally both generations need to be slightly lowered (no more than an inch) with better wheels/tires ultimately, but when done to both, still find the 1st gen lines the prettier of the two.
That being said, it seems pretty clear that the 2nd gen is superior to the 1st in almost all measurable categories (as well as feel - other than the EPS that some feel lost feel), and with the current state of used car prices, a 2nd gen car available at or below MSRP is a much better value proposition than a 6-10 YO 1st gen with anywhere from 40-90K miles, and their ridiculous asking prices..

Basically like American lager. They make it as uninteresting as possible to appeal the the largest audience possible (and then offend - or appeal to - no one at all.) 1st Gens have more character. But the 2nd Gens still have enough. They're a bit more tame in looks, but there's a lot that doesn't show up well in pictures but you see in person that still makes them absolutely stunning to look at. Basically, the performance improvements in the 2nd Gen more than make up for the losses in visual interest for me. |

Car market will crash soon enough. Don’t overpay. These are great cars but not if you overpay. Sticking with my 16BRZ daily, no payments is very nice. Almost 100k, just gonna put as many miles on her as I can. When I need torque, just get it over 4k and enjoy.
