I'm waiting for member NOHOME from London ON to log on within 6 months and maybe post another picture under the hood of his Volvo 1800ES which I think had a 289 or bigger V8 shoehorned in there.

Hearing things like this saddens me to no end. 1) that regulations make it incredibly expensive to own vehicles & 2) that so many youth have little interest.

There is a building next to my work with a P1800 in it. The building was burned from arson, dude has a bunch of classic cars in it. Really sad to see. I see it when I drive by.

you might remember when the entire auto industry came to a catastrophic ending in 2000? according to all of the media at the time, that was specifically because 14 year old me and my peers weren't purchasing new cars, and had zero interest in vehicles--those reports went well into 2006, until against all odds, my generation started doing crazy things like getting jobs, and being able to suddenly have funds to purchase new cars...

that was where i learned to never let reality get in the way of being a good curmudgeon.

I have always loved the Volvo P1800 ES. I do remember them when they were pretty new, and typically you would see them in yellow or orange iirc. The glass hatch was their most unique feature.

In the mid-80's I was excited to read that Volvo planned a sporty compact hatch with the glass lid like the 1800, to be assembled in the Netherlands. But, it never came to fruition for the North American market. It would have been a step up from my '85 Golf GTI at the time.

The designers did incorporate a glass hatch in the C30 as a nod to the 1800.

It is a 302. Really the only part that is the Volvo is the body. Miata chassis, 302engine, and Volvo body. He lives about 5 blocks away and I have yet to go see the car.

In the late 80s and early 90s there were some seedy clubs in that area. My wife once told me a story how some aboriginal girl randomly grabbed another girl's hair and wouldn't let go. Lol
Then she moved to Toronto and lived near Regent Park. Lol
My late father in law knew London really well. In the late 50s in to the 60s his dad owned a motorcycle store in town. And the other grandfather had a shoe store on Dundas St for probably for 30 years. The east of Adelaide stigma is long gone, but I am told it was the area with late night clubs and not so many Western students.

The stigma still remains and although all the bars are gone the range of about 6 blocks around the police station is the main habitat of prostitutes and drug addicts.

Alaways wanted to own one of these, but the opportunity never came. 90% of EU ones were diesels, and most of the petrol ones were the small NA kind.

Have an 86 and a 6-weeks old now so a C30 is not near the top of my to-do.

French cars are cool, too bad we'll never get any here. Renault in the 80's and Peugeot 808 and 909 were the last, I think. When I was a teen, my girlfriends stepdad drove an 808. It was shaped similar to a SAAB 99. But of course the Megane sport would be nice competition to Toyota GR Corolla here.
Best French car ever though would have to be Citroen SM. Nothing else like it. Change a tire without a jack.
