When you work for someone else you are subject to external forces beyond your control. You can mitigate that to some extent by making yourself a valuable asset. I have been fortunate enough to read the tea leaves and be somewhere else when the axe falls. They say that what goes around, comes around and when that actually happens to those most deserving of that sort of karma, I admit to taking great pleasure. At a special BBQ get-together that was supposed to be an 'Atta-boy (and girl)' for the grunts, one of the higher-ups made a lot of noise on the side saying that if he had more control, he would get rid of the craft union people and subcontract out the work. As you can imagine, this went over huge especially at this event. Some time later God got even with that fool. First, his brand new 'mansion' in an exclusive sub-division started to sink in the ground. Not all parts of the house sank at the same rate, so the house literally twisted apart over a period of just a few months. God was not done with this sinner. The company was going through a downsizing and it was apparent that the company could shed the multiple layers of management. How many bosses does your boss need? Well, our sinner found himself looking for a new job internally and got assigned to do an assessment of labor and budgets. It pained him like his soul was on fire when his survey disclosed that work being done by the union employees was done on or below budget, at a better quality level where jobs were not having to be redone using maintenance dollars. Then he was transferred out of state to a job that was soon surplus. I worked for that company another 20 years before retiring. Sometimes it is just paying attention to what is going on around you. At the previous job, I walked into the workshop through a back door and overheard a conversation in an adjacent office. The talk was something about the company not being able to make payroll in maybe a month or so. Very quietly, I gave two weeks notice and bailed. I found out later that the national home office took over the local operation and on top of that, the CEO of our branch was embezzling big bucks. Too bad; it was a great job. This was also at the time Bill Gates and Paul Allen were getting Microsoft going. Because of where I was and what I was doing, I figured out where it was all heading. And, now we have the Internet.

Gesh, what is with all the new member posts lately.
I have a coolant leak, here is an over zoomed picture taken with a potato. What is it? I have smoke coming from my engine bay after having the engine replaced. Can anyone tell me what is causing it? I have a leak from under the fuel tank, what is this fluid? My car is making a clunking noise. Here is a video of me sitting in the passenger seat. What is it? There needs to be a thread curating these types of questions.

Sadly, it would be ignored by those who most need it.
