I won a raffle prize at the company Christmas party. I guess I'll be getting that transmission jack after all.

Your company raffled off a transmission jack?

MomHawk is as well.

Of course, she did point out to me that it isn't much different than some of the car shows I watch. They start the build, things go horribly wrong, then they manage to pull it all together in time for the reveal.

Pretty much a Hallmark movie with grease and less attractive people.

Except in a car show you might learn something about how things are put together. Hallmark movies are pure fantasy.

So are most of the car shows.

Fair enough. I never really liked the classic "build" shows myself. I did enjoy Wheeler Dealers though.

I used to love the show Counting Cars until I got the chance to visit the shop in Vegas a few years ago. Most of the mechanical work you see them "do" is actually farmed out to other shops, the body and paint that looks so good on camera I would not be happy with on my DD and most of the nicer cars in their showroom were not even built by them.
I think they may have started out as a legit shop but now just rush through each project for content since the show has been on so long. That and so much time is spent in front of the camera for the fake drama (I watched them reshoot a big "surprise" moment about 5 times since the guy didn't look shocked enough at the news he just received) they don't do much real work.

Yea, that and Fast and Loud (GasMonkey Garage) are the two specifically she made that comment about.

FantomWorks was the other I watched but it seemed a little more legit, even if it did tend to use its share of "over the top" moments.

Now, when I need a gearhead fix I primarily watch Chasing Classic Cars, and the occasional Wheeler Dealer.

Honestly that is pretty realistic. Sounds like me prepping for the first track day of the year. When I first got my trailer the ramps were way too short. I was up till like 2am building new ones the night before a track day, drove to the track and then slept in the parking lot for a couple hours.

All I watch now are "Will it start" revival videos on YouTube. Far more fun than full restorations.
