Thanks, although my local dealer apparently sent everyone on the list besides me a notice about cars coming in (market is stupid right now)

Anytime I hear someone "am I too old to..." I interrupt with a solid NO lol. Only you can decide what motivates you. I'm 37 but my hair color makes me look 57. Life is too short to wonder "man, should I try it, or not bother and always wonder if it was the right decision?"
I test drove a Gen-1 86 a few years ago and I had a hard time forgetting how much fun it was. Now as a serious prospective buyer, I'm super excited to make it my daily and throw on some WS90's come winter time. Our 3-yr old daughter LOVED going for drives in the S2k, called it her racecar. I'm looking to bring back those fun little drives "looking for trains" as we whip around the backroads and going "vroom" under tunnels/bridges. |

IF anyone thinks going from say a porsche or BMW to an 86 is "going backwards" think of it this way....
if going backwards means spending less money...then by all means im going backwards...cuz if you're going "forwards"...what comes after BMW....Porsche? then what aston martin? you're like adding at least 10 grand on top of your current car to "upgrade" to the next one. Its more accurately portrayed as "going downmarket" Get 90% of that porsche for 35% of the money, and pocket the other 55% for other things |

Statistically, you're likely to spend more time in a Porche going backwards through hedges.
... it's joke, more sour grapes than anything else.

44 here and the FRS is the weekend race car. It's a toy I can afford to smash into a wall and walk away from. Yeah I might shed a tear, but it's an affordable toy. I don't race a Corvette or Mustang because I'd rather have cheaper operating and maintenance costs.
When I'm racing, people kinda expect to see a young punk kid get out- then I climb out of the car and pull off me helmet and people see a grizzled graybeard with a Dad bod. good times. That said, there's another guy I race with that runs a Baby Grand (tiny tube frame NASCAR looking thing with a 4 cyl Mazda)-- the guy is 85 yrs old and can whoop my ass on track. kudos to him! I also used to be prez of the local Z club. We had members that were 18 and members that were 80 driving the same chassis- everything from Datsun 240Zs to brand new 350Zs (the 370 wasn't out yet.) So no, age has no limit when it comes to cars. Drive what makes you happy. |

I can understand that if someone thinks that the BRZ/86 is age specific if only because it is obtainable by someone who is working their first good job as opposed to where I am, watching my contemporaries be laid to rest one by one. I'm closing in on 72 and I'm on my second BRZ. My question: who is laying the age appropriate trip on you? Marketing folks like to use terms such as 'Entry Level' for any relatively affordable car with the assumption that you have to trade up as soon as you have the extra cash. Keep in mind that the Mazda MX5 Miata was created by shamelessly cashing in on the idea of the Lotus Elan. The plan was to appeal to the buyer who had a sports car when they were young and single, but now that they have a family, a good job and a little extra jingle in the pocket, the Miata was just too hard to pass up. There was a time when the Miata was first introduced and I bought a new 1989 Mazda MPV. I would have driven home a new Miata also if it were not for the fact that my head bumped the frame of the convertible top. I suffered through a series of Triumphs, MGs and Austin Healeys and I was not going down that road again. I forgot that I did not like my Elan all that much, but maybe it was my assumption that Mazda could build a better Lotus, at least one that you could live with. When I bought my BRZ(s), I was not asked how old I was, just how I wanted to pay for it.

52 here and using my FRS for a work commute 2 hours a day. I am a little creaky getting out at the work parking lot but I park so far away, no one notices. My younger coworkers all were surprised by my ride with lots of questions.
Recently bought a hyundai santa cruz for when I just want to sit back and relax. The frs is like a new puppy, eager to play; the cruz is like a old dog, comfy. |

Just got my gr86 last week and feeling my 40+ back is too old for the car. Porsche is so much more comfortable even with carbon fiber seats. My wife loves it though. Sporty daily driver for her and I’ll track it on weekends.

210,000 miles in the FRS and still driving it at least 90 minutes a workday from my eary 50s now to my 60s. There is nothing about this car that is for "a certain age". It's a fun, reasonably priced car that fits all ages with it's classic looks. When I bought mine the "First 86" group was a mix of all ages, leaning more towards 50 than 20. (If you don't know what "First 86" is, search on this site, plenty of info)
