Air tagging your car

Has anyone thought about using an air tag to track your car in the event it is stolen?

I mean, you could try but if they take it somewhere rural or where there are few iOS devices, then it's not going to be that reliable.

The airtag is best for situations like being attached to luggage because that means it's going through airports/train stations where it's much more likely to come across iOS devices that can report its location.

If you're that worried, you're probably better off getting a dedicated GPS tracker.

You'll be better off leaving a receipt on the passenger seat saying it just had the valve spring recall done

This has been discussed in some news articles. There are a few problem with this.

Air tags depend highly on other iOS devices to be near it, with their Bluetooth on, in order to pinpoint its location. So if the robber takes it to an isolated location you're SOL. Another thing is that Air Tags emit an alarm when a certain distance has been reached from whatever device they are originally linked to. This would alarm the robber who would immediately take action.

The action would probably be to ditch the car, finding it would be a nightmare in a car, especially if it’s hidden somewhere clever.

Your iPhone should already be able to track that if you connect with bluetooth/carplay. Usually Apple Maps automagically sets its parked location, and I know Google Maps has a similar feature.

Haha, but it has bluetooth, right? I think even the earlier BT-enabled headunits should be recognized. Maybe not.

Don't think older one can do it... but I could be wrong.

Don't leave the keys in it so it doesn't get stolen in the first place.
If it is stolen by professionals (that can get around the chip system) for that highly lucrative off shore FRS/BRZ/86 sales market then they are going to know how to find and shut off tracking devices anyway.
