JDL vs Tomei vs Gruppe S UEL Catless Headers - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hey guys
I am confused between getting Tomei vs JDL vs Gruppe UEL catless headers. I am 75% performance gains 25% Subaru rumble kinda guy. I currently have an invidia r400 catback exhaust on my car.

Exhaust setup I have in my mind:
UEL catless header (not yet decided which to get)
Invidia Overpipe or Gruppe S overpipe
HKS Dual Resonated front pipe
Invidia R400 Catback Exhaust

My major concern is gains but I do care a bit for the Subaru rumble. I know all the above mentioned UELs will give me the rumble. However, I couldn’t find any dynos that compared the performance gains between Tomei and JDL UELs with the same remaining exhaust setup. I know that that the gains in Tomei and Gruppe UELs are almost exactly the same and Gruppe is the best bang for buck. Please advise. I am not concerned about money (not coz I am rich) but I would like to keep the setup for some time and wants to get it right for my taste even if that means waiting a bit to save some more money to get what I want.

JDL will almost certainly make the most power but the difference is likely not noticeable. Over pipe brand isn't gonna make a difference.

So the max gains between JDL and Tomei is less than 5 HP you think? Asking cos you said it wont be noticeable. Thanks for your response. ��

Probably about 5 yeah. EL will get you a few more but I agree with you on sound

Go with the JDL for max performance. Plus you can order them ceramic coated too. Plus JDL have great customer support (at least in my experience). Though if you wanna go JDM AF, HKS have their boxer spec header. But that's more of 75% boxer rumble 25% gainz.

Gruppe-s is your best bang for buck. Power per dollar is probably the best there.

Yes, GruppeS is 20-100% less expensive for minimal loss. They also ship with an overpipe, so youre saving there as well. I "ceramic" coated mine hanging from my basketball hoop for $18. If you like UEL, get GruppeS. Just keep a very "Street" catback system.

I used to have the JDL UEL header with an OFT tune and really liked it. Flattened the torque curve and had a great top end. I can't speak to the other headers tho.

i had the gruppe s uel header with the gruppe OP(its somewhat useless to get the OP since its like 2.1-2.2 inches) both ceramic coated it only ran me like 580ish shipped. so yea really best bang for your buck. i think its like 450 shipped w/out the overpipe. Cheap and quality made items. any headers with a good tune will give you a performance upgrade and you'll still get your rumble. Prefer the JDL UEL but since i got all of this with it being coated for the price i got, couldnt really say no.

get 2017+ headers, knock out the cat, save yourself the $600+ on other things.

that's 75% of the performance right there.

One thing I will say JDL quality was top notch. Also when I had my tomie UEL the car was just really loud compared to my new JDL EL. I know it's kinda apple to oranges, get JDL. Support the small shop hand made in the USA. Not saying the other 2 are bad but of the 3 JDL will be the best. Also with BF JDL normally does free coating and I highly recommend it

I'll throw my 2 cents in and also recommend JDL. I have their 4-2-1 EL header and quality was absolutely top notch. I got mine Cerakoted for free as well for black friday (purchased the header when it came out BF 2018).

I actually have a very similar exhaust setup to what you are after, with a few minor differences:

JDL 4-2-1 EL Header
Stock OP and FP
Invidia R400

Add some rumbley to the below and that's what it'll sound like, basically

My JDL UEL's are on the way....quick question for you guys. The FT86 OEM gaskets that ship with the headers, did anyone use them or should I be ordering the Grimmspeed ones?
